I have to say I fucking hate this event. And to me it was the proof that after Siege Marvel should have stop with the annual events for a while or at least not making them withouth an ongoing series that builds to it. At least from 2005 to 2010 all the annual events had a consistency in the artwork (House of M, Civil War, WWH, Secret Invasion, etc.) But in AvX the fact that changes so much had me thinking it was a rush work. And second problem I had is that the writer is Bendis. The man that didn't work in either of the previous messiah arcs. Because the big issue with this horrible event is that is the ending to the Messiah era of the X Men. Messiah Complex and Second Coming were so epic and great and there each issue had a different creative team because it was a crossover but it was very clear everybody was on the same page. In AvX Bendis is writing the mayority of the story taking everything that was previusly established with Hope and making it garbage. During the event and what is worse after it, Hope Summers becomes a background character. And it's not until now the era of Destiny of X that finally she has become a main character again. That's what happens when you take a character and reduced it only to be a plot device. That's what Hope is in AvX, be only the avatar for the Phoenix Force. And it's very dissapointing how the big stakes of the future of the mutants is solve with only a callback to the famous words of House of M. I still remember the words the sentinel says in the battle of Second Coming when Hopes manifest her powers: "This moment, this is the beginning. They look to you as a Messiah, but you are not, you are the adversary. Your death is the reason for our existence, and we will never quit. You must be killed, to ensure that humanity lives. That is our purpose. For if you survive, nothing survives." Then AvX comes along and well, nothing that epic happens in that garbage event :^

I sold my copies of this event. I think also hate what they did to cyclops and figured they took the worst part of most marvel events (Page filling fights with no real focus and a moot story line) and made a whole event like that. I agree with you about John Romita Jr's art. Not a fan at all. Actively puts me off any stories with his art in it.

Really happy to see more content, Maddogg. Gonna watch this one while lying down in the dark eating popcorn ha ha. Definitely have some differing opinions, compared to the majority of people😄. Found AVX a fab read in general. Barring Spider-verse probably my fav Marvel event from the last decade even.

Read pretty much every tie in and found them overall better than the main title, they flesh out characters and decisions have a wide ramifications with long term consequences in the X books. I appreciate how the dynamic of Scott was changed forever and added a new layers. Everyone usually says Scott is a boring character but imo never seen him in that light. Even in the early years he was the most tragic + complex character on the team. No-var has quickly became a favourite of mine and SLIGHT SPOILER, in a impossible situation between his duty to his people or friends emotionally resonated. Just wish he'd had a happy ending. Honestly wouldn't know who I'd side with either. What happened to him afterwards. Haven't seen him in current books? A few pet peeves. Kinda lags in the middle and certain tie ins should've been cut. Just repeat what we already knew just a different viewpoint. And they overdid the sheer amount of tie ins. Those Versus issues were pretty cool though. If the Avengers and X-Men would've worked together maybe been avoided and lives ultimately saved. I side more with X-Men, after all they are fighting extinction so of course they became reckless in wanting the Phoenix despite dangers. I've gone on way too long already.😂

I liked it even though I had a couple major problems. One it was too long. If they had cut it in half I would have liked it twice as much. Two there was too much going on. Basically if they had simplified the story instead of making it a world wide event it would have been a lot more enjoyable.

Cyclops being the big bad in the ned was the best part. His transition to sorta villain was great and underutilized a bunch of wasted potential

Yeah not a fan of this one. I can understand why Marvel would want to do an Avengers vs X-Men story on paper but I just didn’t like it and I'm glad, imo, Cyclops sorta is moving away from being a dick/villain. Plus yeah why do the mutant heavy factions in these types of stories have to be the bad guys by default?

That's a fair point, I know I'm in the minority with enjoying this one, it's probably the nostalgia reviewing this 😂 Currently reviewing Bendis's X-Men that followed this, though, and I'm not sure it's gonna be easy to defend it, so might be worth a watch when it's uploaded 😇 thanks for watching the video mate! 🐶
