It's like y'all are reading my mind 😮 these are the exact emtb i am considering, leaning towards Ramblas because going on long, hilly day trips around the PNW is my main interest. Excited to watch!

I opted for the ramblas over the marlin. I got it on sale so the difference allowed me to upgrade dropper, grips, and pedals before reaching the price of the marlin. I prefer single tracks and am not a jumper so it has been great.

I love my Ramblas. It's the better bike. More thought out and better suited for a trial MTB riding. 50nm torque doesn't cut it and the Marlin ain't cheap either. Ramblas all the way.

This video continues a theme of reviewers scrambling to find justification for why Bosch-powered Ebikes cost so much more. They just do.

Yeah it sucks to see but these bike companies are getting absolutely outclassed. And in some ways for “humans” as a whole it’s a good thing if fast innovation gets more people on an e bike. But it sucks that recommending any sort of brand name bike is just… bad.

Hey guys. I’m sure Griffin knows it but maybe some of the viewers don’t but Trek bike shops ( at least in my area) will work on whatever sort of bike you bring them so don’t let not having an Aventon shop in your area be a deterrent to buying a less expensive bike that looks like a great alternative to the Marlin

i bought my Ramblas from the oldest bike shop in my town. The said they could handle any service issues. Also stated they see very little issues with Ramblas

I don’t know how Aventon dealers price their bikes but I went to a Trek dealer who offered me, without my asking, a $250 discount for buying through him rather than online. The Aventon may still be the better deal if you want the greater torque and range and don’t mind the additional noise, weight, and coil spring fork. The Marlin also has 2.6” tires compared to the Aventon’s 2.4” .
@celderian

While there isn't much you can do for the weight and noise, you can upgrade the fork and tires for less than the price difference the two though...

Underneath the Ramblas fork, you can adjust it

Ramblas. Is what I chose. Been a great bike. My only flaw is the noise. It's a tad annoying but I can deal with it. It's powerful and battery is great. Gonna upgrade forks and tires prolly next summer.

Great comparison. There are no reviews of the Rocky Mountain Fusion power play line. I'm considering the Fusion 30 or the Ramblas. I'd love to know if any of you have an opinion about that? My local bike shop is selling the Ramblas for $2,900 and closing out the 2023 Fusion 30 for $2500. Thanks Rich

I bought a Trek road bike in 1979 when they were probably about the size that Aventon is now. No doubt they still build nice bikes that are arguably worth the money, but you do pay a premium for the brand recognition and overhead of the much larger company they have become. With Aventon building out a dealer network, that advantage is going away. I was able to test ride the Ramblas at a local shop and will be taking delivery of a fully-assembled bike tomorrow. The weight difference is marginal and due largely to the greater battery capacity and motor torque. The forest roads and trails I ride are less technical but longer with a lot of altitude gain so climbing power and range are priorities for me. As others have pointed out, the price differential will pay for upgrades to make the Ramblas easily outclass the Marlin on paper and if the Marlin had comparable range and power, that differential would be even higher.

Not getting why you give Trek so many underserved flowers here. If the price differential was put towards the Ramblas, it would have better components across the board and destroy the Marlin in every way. It’s nearly better now! There is no comparison unless you just want a name.
@charlesloeffler333

Other than the implication that you don’t like Trek, it seems odd to claim that it’s unfair to say a bike is better because it has better components. Aren’t components often considered to be at least very important aspects of a bike ?

Don't mean to bash but for around 2100 you can Get a rocky mountain emtb hardtail. It comes with a suntour xcr air shock but you can easily upgrade to something nicer like a revelation which can be found cheap on the used market as a take off since people often times upgrade to pikes or lyriks
@ElectricBikeReport

Where did you find that price? Everything on their website start around $3k.

@ElectricBikeReport jensen. They got the fusion power 10 for like 2.1 grand right now in medium and large. It is the 2023 model so that may be why though. But specs on the 2024 look to be similar to the 2023 with the xcr fork

I love the content, but man not doing the true head to head with the Marlin+ 6 this just seems off. With that said, I’m happy to see content with the LBS brands. More Giant, Trek, Specialized etc. content please! Don’t necessarily want to see less DTC, just would be great to see a better mix.
@willing2live

I think the Ramblas would beat the Marlin+ 6 due to the components so maybe they thought using the 8 was a more fair comparison despite the other issues

You can buy the Ramblas, replace the coil fork with an air fork and it will still be less expensive, have more range, more power, and the upgraded fork can also reduce the weight by 3 lbs. Therefore, I would pick the Ramblas.
@Rod1120

why i choose the Ramblas. right now it handles everything i throw at it but may do a few upgrades down the road. Tubeless would be really nice. but for now an can occasionally buy a new $20 tude

I'm leaning towards the Aventon but I do wish they had Throttle control as well. Aventon has an Adventuras 2 that has both but it's not a mountain bike.
@ElectricBikeReport
Ай бұрын
Mountain bikes typically don't have throttles. It's a touchy subject amongst the MTB community. FWIW, the motor power of the Ramblas is so strong you might not really need a throttle.
@Rod1120

my state park will only allow peddle assist and not throttle control. The ramblas is a monster and handles rough trail with ease

Slower, less power, less range, and $800 more. My goodness, this isn't even a debate
@sedohrj87

Well the Ramblas weighs about 6lbs more, looks and feels way "chunkier", not to mention some people prefer a less powerful e bike. Bosch motors also have the capability for an additional module upgrade that acts as anti theft alarm and gps feature
@Rod1120

should have compared to the marlin 6 which is at the same price point and the Ramblas would have really cooked it. I love my Ramblas. $800 worth update and the Trek would not have been in the ball park

If you could invest the cost difference in a fork upgrade for the Ramblas, would that make it a clear winner?

I purchased the Trek Marlin +6 mostly because I wanted something that was a bit more natural feeling. The ramblas is a great choice, but the Trek won out for a lot of reasons.

You could easily upgrade for the fork on Ramblas and still be cheaper than Trek. I went with the Ramblas and have no issues. Yesterday I rode 3 hard trails back to back over rough and steep terrain. normally i am toast after 1 on my full suspension . it's a game changer for me. uphills are now down hill for me. and still had 80% of battery afterwards. Ramblas was available at all three big bike shops in my town. I was able to get mine before the price increase.would have thought that you would test the Ramblas against the Marlin 6 since they were at the same price point. $800 can get you a lot of upgrades

A couple other plots that could be informative. On the climb, speed vs distance or time along with heart rate vs these two, too. Heart rate might be a decent stand in for rider effort. Another one that I’d try would be speed versus heart rate with ticks every 100 meters or every 30 seconds. This might be a little more difficult to interpret, but it would be an interesting loop starting at zero speed with low heart rate then returning back close to that point.

I like power, so I would choose the Aventon. But I am too old to ride trail without full suspension, so neither of these hardtails really works for me.
