I’ve been riding an analog single speed bike to college. It’s 13 miles one way, and crazy hilly (SoCal). Seeing this thing do well on hills and have 30mile range made me purchase one. Hopefully this makes my ride a lot easier. Thanks for the review guys!

It would be helpful to know some of the stats of your hill climbs, such as percent grade, rider weight, etc. because these can affect the performance greatly.

Got to test drive this bike and the torque sensor seems jerky and inferior to cadence sensor. If you want to ride hard with PAS it uses more battery versus a cadence. Also, the torque sensor just detects torque and not power as trying to pedal in highest gear will give you max power. We need e bikes with cadence/torque sensors and the ability to select how to use each. Also, we need options for constant wattage like ride1up. I'm not sold on torque sensors on their own especially without adjustable power.

Does reducing the top speed in the app to let's say 12 or 15 mph, step down the amount of effor the battery uses at the varying PAS level and potentially conserve battery power and increasing range? I am finding that even in ECO mode I could actually use a little less assistance
@SnoopyReads

You could just pedal it without using the battery at all if you want to go 12 mph, that's average regular biking speed

I have the soltera 1 single speed and its review with EBC had a better hell hole climbing performance by 25% but, max assist distance was increased by 50% compared to Soltera 2. Really interesting trade-offs but, with seemingly poor climbing performance despite max pedal assist. What they need is customizable power settings. If you combine set wattage PAS(Ride1up head units for example) and cruise control( Soltera 1) I feel would be superior to a torque sensor without customizable power settings.
@ElectricBikeReport

Different sized motors though. Gearing isn't everything on this hill - it's typically secondary to motor capability. We like the suggestion about picking your own power levels though. We've seen some bikes allow for that level of detail - we always welcome options.
@jasondelarosa5457

@@ElectricBikeReport Motor are same size for soltera 1 and soltera 2 according to Aventon website. Its not an apples to apples comparison however, since different rider was doing the testing and the soltera 1 test was done standing. It just seems that torque sensor ebikes can't climb as well but, cruise more efficiently given same motor.

I think I would rather deal with the extra 10 lbs and have a full suspension. We don't have any smooth roads to ride on in our city in and around Detroit. Bumpy, patched, cracked, pothole filled roads.. Bumpy sidewalks.. No bike lanes. This bike and it's riders would take a beating.
@rayrussell6258

Detroit has plenty of bike routes in the city, and funding for more. I live in the area. Not saying you don't have some streets in poor condition around you, because there are some. But it's not like the entire city has that. Detroit is even eliminating some freeways, and implementing green spaces. I'm certain they will have bike paths there.

@@kevinnashskitchen3517 yet .... but funds are there. Obama and Biden put it in place, but due to covid a lot of projects haven't been completed. If I recall, the green areas are just north of downtown, where Biden's Transportation Sec'y approved eliminating a freeway, a year or two ago. That's a major project and absorbs a lot of resources to complete it. But Washtenaw already has used funds for bike lanes. Downriver will get money, without a doubt. It just wasn't first priority.

I disagree with your assessment of the brakes. Sure, the bike might weigh less. But when you stop, you have to stop with the weight of the rider on the bike. If the bike weighs 10 pounds less, but the rider weighs 30 pounds MORE, your stopping distance gets worse. I daresay, it might even go beyond your tolerance level for the brake test.
@rayrussell6258

I don't want a bike that I have to pedal harder if I want to ride faster. Aventon needs to restore the option of cadence on all its models (EBC is doing that on a few of their models, you can order either/or). For people who are not riding for work outs / physical conditioning, but who ride for loosening up stiff old bodies like mine at nearly 70 years, we need the bike to do the extra work for us. Yes, there is the throttle, but in analogy to your recommendation of torque sensor to get "feel", throttle gives you no feel. Cadence at least does require pedaling. In fact, I would even go a step further, and push for BOTH those drive systems be on bikes. Have a switch that allows you to choose which system you want on any given day, cadence or torque. There are a few bikes already out there that do that, but they may not be mainstream enough brands for riders to recognize them. (Also a bit pricey)
@ElectricBikeReport
Жыл бұрын
I think it's fair to request the ability to toggle the torque sensor on/off and choose to just ride it with a cadence sensor (which it does have on this one and as far as we know all torque sensor e-bikes still have a cadence sensor). I think we feel though that if you're looking at this particular style of bike with it's design you're more likely to be the type wanting a ride you can actively pedal, and the feeling like you're riding an analog bike is a plus for us. Like you said, some may not like that though, so we'd be happy to see the ability to toggle the torque sensor on/off - it never hurts to have options.
@chow-chihuang4903

Juiced offers some models that let you switch modes from their displays. Any ebike with a torque sensor can use it to detect movement of the cranks to operate in cadence mode, if only the software in the display were written to do so.
