The "Spirit of a Country" Sound and Light Show on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Canada, has been captivating audiences since July 2005 and finishes its run in September 2009. Toronto's AVH live communications produced the Sound and Light Show which presents Canada as a nation whose geography, multi-cultured citizens and innovative spirit work in harmony serving as a beacon to societies throughout the world. The project challenged AVH live to constantly work at the bridging of Canada's progress as a Nation and highlights special contributions in technology, art and culture. Playing twice each evening, the integration of video and giant image projection along with a historical narrative and an original surround sound score made this a genuine foray for the National Capital Commission into the large-scale multimedia production industry.
In its first season, the audience for the show went from 154,000 to 227,000 spectators, an increase of over 47%, which greatly surpassed the target attendance of 175,000 that was set during development. Since its inception, the show has continued to draw record breaking numbers, including an overall increase of 11.9% in 2007.
