Nice construction, If I have the space I will build one myself. Did you make some extra security to prevent Suk from escaping? Ravens are so clever in contrast to my quails and finches. On my channel you can see how I build my quail cage. It's a lot smaller but fits perfectly on my balkony :P

thanks, the only extra security is the airlock. we have wild ravens trying to get in, but Suk has shown no interest in getting out. the netting is very strong and secured well and the fencing underneath extends up into the walls so no tunnelling out :-) he's been safe and content in his palace for over a year now.

What type of net u used? Is it good enough for all weather conditions....
@mjcunningham1

Itnis Made from High Density Polyethylene fiber, a flexible & highly durable material that helps prevent injuries to birds. One inch mesh is recommended for quail pens. Two inch netting is for pheasants and larger birds. Good for all weather conditions.

There are many components to doing a pro job. One resource I found that successfully combines these is the Aviary magic method (google it if you're interested) without a doubt the most useful course that I have ever heard of. Check out this amazing resource.

Do I see stones or some kind of gravel on the floor? How would you scrub the floor with stones in the way? What is your general location. Do you get cold winters?
@mjcunningham1
7 жыл бұрын
Marie M it's pea gravel on the ground. The winters here in western Washington state, USA aren't too bad very few hard freezes.

@mjcunningham1

Marie M it houses a single Common raven (Corvus corax) no heat source.

What makes it not rodent safe? Because squirrels can chew through the mesh?
@mjcunningham1
8 жыл бұрын
Bird Brain no squirrels can get in but mice can get in through the wire under it. it's primary just to keep predators out. if mice get in its at their own risk lol

You did a beautiful job. How many weeks to build it? Did you stay steady on the job ? Where do you live? Do you breed ?
@mjcunningham1
5 жыл бұрын
thank you. It took me (alone) about 3 months to complete nights and weekends mostly as I have a regular job. This is in Washington State, USA. No breedeing it is for a single Common Raven to educate youth ( and adults too) about Ravens and wildlife/conservation.

How long will the netting hold up to the UV? Curious about why keep a Raven?
@mjcunningham1
8 жыл бұрын
according to the manufacturer I beleive it is 10 years. - The Raven, Suk is his name, is permitted for wildlife education. He is imprinted on humans and is not releasable back into the wild. you can learn more about him on his facebook page @suktheraven

explain what? this video is from several years ago. at the time I wasn't allowed to say what was going in it other than a bird. It's now been the home for a Common Raven for the last 5 years.

@mjcunningham1

We have woodpeckers, but they avoid the treated wood ( and there's plenty of trees for them) , and they would be pretty dumb to go near a raven :-)
