Самое прикольное для меня - то, что когда я смотрела то самое видео Люси и Марины несколько месяцев назад, я сразу подумала, что это нетипично с точки зрения грамматики и нелогично абсолютно, когда говорят Why won't I be? в контексте ответа на вопрос как дела. Но я сразу подумала, что Люси бы, наверное, перезаписала тот момент и попросила Марину ответить по-другому. Оказывается, у Люси как у британки слишком много такта, и вот поэтому настоящая правда открылась мне только сейчас. Я вижу, что другие тоже высказались насчет излишней вежливости, когда она, откровенно говоря, вредит другим. Как здорово, что Кевин подробно на эту тему высказался. Thanks a lot, Kevin, my best English teacher.

And even though I kinda feel like my English is good, I still watch lots of educational videos and read some useful articles to improve my skills. Sometimes I'm shocked that I didn't know some very basics while being a C1 speaker. And I'm a Russian myself, and as a child I used to watch Marina's videos a lot cus it seemed fun and practical. Her mistake is to position herself as a teacher. She is a good entrepreneur and could just have hired professional/native speakers as teachers. The idea of their startup is really good. Nevertheless she is a great motivator, and can teach how to make business, youtube, reels and startups. And her level of English is more than enough to be very successful in the United States and she got her citizenship recently. She still has russian thinking though, no matter how she wants to dissociate herself from the russian world.

I understand that some grammar rules like "Not only" sentence construction might be hard to remember for non-native English speakers like Marina. But saying that Americans pronounce "water" with "r" in the middle is beyond good and evil. That just proves that marketing is everything in America. You might be the worst in what you do best and still become successful with good PR😀

Thank you so much for sharing this with us. As an ESL student, I highly appreciate it. I learned so much from today's lesson. It was absolutely amazing. By the way, I'm a native Spanish speaker, and we have two ways of pronouncing the "r" depending on where it goes in a word. The first way is actually the one you showed on the video (16:15), the rolled "r". The other way is indeed the same sound made in American English when pronouncing the "t" in the word "water". Thank you again for this great video!! ❤

16:35 Marina wasn't referring to the rolling R, she was talking about the soft R you can hear in Spanish, for example, in words like "pero", "precio", "garaje"... That's the sound used in the word "water".

Marina sounds absolutely American in comparison to British. That's why Lucy made that video with her, I believe. But, I can't understand why not with a native speaker, to avoid such mistakes and also to be precise in examples, not superficial 😅 she should have an American English teacher in her team to correct her before posting videos!!! And that teacher should be American, because that's the English she thinks that masters!

It sort of reminds me of Elizabeth Holmes (one the greatest Silicon Valley frauds), probably Marina's business is relatively "harmless" but it hurts me (as an ESL learner) to think of all those people who're sincerely trying to improve their language skills using her materials and paying for them. It's a shame😢

I really like both Lucy and Marina. Let's keep in mind that Marina is not a native speaker and sometimes she makes mistakes. Overall, her English is really good and the fact that she has so many people following her just triggers jealously towards her. I think that her way of teaching is really fun even though I realize she makes mistakes here and there. She deserves having all these people following her. I think she has worked hard. Also, Lucy is adorable and an outstanding teacher.

You should know that there are lots of professional non-native teachers who don't make those A2-B1 level mistakes, although making mistakes is perfectly normal, but she should have worked on her grammar a bit harder before teaching people. The problem is that eradicating fossilized errors is really hard, what's the point of this teaching? Yet again, it's okay if she just speak and doesn't teach it.

@@AZ-gs7xb I partially agree with you but this is just a KZitem channel. What do you expect? You have to use your own discretion before you choose to watch a channel or buy someone's book. We are also responsible for our learning. This is free content and some people don't take it as seriously or they take it seriously but they also don't want to lose the fun part of it. The fact that she is followed by so many people doesn't mean that her English is perfect but there is something about her that attracts people and we should respect that. And also her, making mistakes doesn't mean that she isn't still putting an effort in learning. I am an non-native English teacher myself and I know about it first hand. She is free to teach it you are free not to watch it.
