Tip #9 Absolutely! Using the time feature has made a huge difference in planning our driving holidays. It's seriously worth spending the time to map out stop-by-stop as a multi-stop journey might appear to be 3 hours, but plan it stop by stop and it could realistically be 6 hours drive time. Great to see you two favourite KZitemrs doing a collab!

Also, go to Malibu, instead of dirty, dangerous Venice beach. Avoid Hollywood Blvd altogether! Go to Sunset Plaza, Robertson, Beverly drive in Beverly Hills, Studio City, ANYWHERE but Hollywood Blvd!! It’s NOT just the carpool lane, but the regular 1 person LEFT LANE you must drive FAST or move over too!! …..the more LEFT on the freeway, the FASTER you drive.

Hey Chris. Just joined your channel after seeing you and Josh on his Huntington Beach episode of CA through my Lens. Look forward to checking out more of your content. Too funny about diamond lane driving and calling SF "frisco". that is a sure way to get all the Northern California folks up in arms. they are always like it's "the city" or "San Francisco" as you know. But I went to college with a lot of them and we always used to say "No Cal, No Sun, No Fun!" Me being a lifelong southern CA resident. Anyway thanks for the video and have a good weekend!

It's good that you mentioned the CA national parks. I think a lot of people forget about them. Carrying tire chains in the winter is a good tip. CA freeway driving is terrible. Many drivers have no lane discipline and have no situational awareness. Drivers driving slow in the commuter lane and in the fast lane is very common.

Also be aware if you’re traveling in extreme heat and cold bring a paper map or instructions and know how to use them. Heat can cause your iPhone to shut down. It happened to me when I was driving and the Ac was on. If you use the iPhone for directions and you’re in Death Valley in summer - oops. you can actually take the train as metro transportation in SF , LA and San Diego and I recommend it. It’s cheaper than parking and often faster thanks to traffic.

The ocean water in CA is always cold here. And CA is huge. Def pick a limited amount of things you can do in the time frame you have. And traffic times is key. I know so many who followed what gps said on a Monday night at 9pm as a guide for how long it would take to there on a Friday afternoon. And Yes! Most people think of CA as Los Angeles and San Francisco. But CA has so many incredible national parks. But the best time to go is spring. That way you can comfortably see all of them and not busy! Summer can be terribly crowded in CA national parks. One great thing about In and Out burger. I always ask for extra lettuce and tomato. No upcharge. And their meal is very affordable. If people want to see movie stars , they should go to visit Ojai or montecito or Santa Barbara where they actually live. But still probably not see them. And locals know so many great things to do like almond blossom or wild flower super blooms or monarch butterfly season. I think most people make the mistake of wanting to come to CA only for Disneyland snd Hollywood and miss some really amazing sights. If I bring people to LA I take them to the Getty or Huntington Library then go get Ethiopian food or go to a real Japanese noodle house or get real Korean food(not bbq) or pupusas at a pupuseria or Israeli or Lebanese food. The food culture in LA is incredible. My friends who visit talk a lot more about the time we got Korean food at a Korean spa in LA or Yosemite and sequoia national park than Disneyland or Beverly Hills

We also made the mistake of going to Death Valley this summer. We were aware of how hot it would get, but didn't know about the flash floods. The flash floods impacted our road trip even more then the heat did. We barely were able to escape Death Valley and were almost stranded at The Ranch (which would have been horrible, since the food there is pretty bad). I now strongly recommend my fellow Europeans travelling to CA not to go to Death Valley in the summer.

Interesting video. We went to Death Valley in July, it was hot 🔥, but if dressed for the heat, and hydrated it's tolerable. I had on a flannel shirt (long sleeved) and a wool sweater, a baseball style cap: I was the coolest in our family. The others had short sleeves and too much skin exposed, and were miserable. Definitely not a good idea to take an air cooled car there in the summer. We came across a Corvair that had overheated and caught fire.
