In the Prometheus movie itself, it says that Prometheus was a titan who was punished for trying to put mankind on the same level as the gods; this is similar to what happens in this movie when they travel through space to meet their creators and they end up with disasterous results for the endeavor.

I would pay all the money I have to watch Ridley Scott kick Michael Bay's ass with his bum leg... and I would still bet on Ridley. I Paraphrase: "Oh my God this crowd is gonna be easy to please" "We did it sensible school" These two lines suddenly gave me faith in watching movies again. All seems lost nowadays, and this man is going to finally give us truly something of standards, quality and effort to ENTERTAIN future generations--not the flavor of the year...

Ridley is not so much a "sci-fi fan" but more simply a great director, hes up there with Spielberg. Hes very versatile and can tackle many different subjects, so I think hes done a great job with Prometheus, look its not perfect, but it most certainly is different. You just cant plz everybody, becus of its themes many were expecting very deep, thought provoking sci-fi, and then others were expecting simplistic, regular "prequel" stuff, where every answer is tackled, job done.

1. An engineer sacrificed himself to seed life on a planet, not necessarily earth. 2. It wasn't killed, but instead trapped in the room. 3. The ship had been there for 2,000 years (this is an important point) and I don't think the earths continents have shifted greatly over the last 2,000 years. I could be wrong about that. Hope that helps?

Hm... I found in Internet a lot of people claiming that trailer spoils everything. But obviously, Scott wants to say that there are a lot of ideas people WILL see. In my personal opinion by creating such trailer which actually says quite a lot of info, Scott is playing with us just like with actors, then they think they know the plot and then BOOM - something goes completely unexpected.

I mean we've all saw Alien so much now and it is a classic, but I watched it recently with commentary of all the actors and director and Ridley sed hes never been a sci-fi enthusiast, I was suprised cus watching Alien, the detail and everything you'd think it was directed by sum1 like Lucas whos really quite into Sci-fi. I really hope he tackles Bladerunners next :))

My opinion is just 1 of +7 billion or so they say, however in my path i have come to understand that same opinion is only worth something to me and perhaps to those who take a moment to consider it. I experienced the 3D thrill with my teenage brother and it was captivating yet presented so well that one would go home and ask themselves The Questions. God and supreme beings are not the same, everywhere at all times means in the core of the atoms that make up our existance not advanced races.

Great film, although the plot is a bit disjointed, and the characters of Charlize Theron and the captain of the ship are vague. But the theme of the movie goes to a brand new direction, with I find fascinating, specially if they make a part II, hopefully it won't take so many years.

I realize now why the people that hate Prometheus HATED the movie. Bringing up relevant topics is a "no-no" when it comes to fanboys. They don't like to think about reality. Fantasy is where its at for them. They feel much more comfortable there. And trying to bring up THE BIG QUESTIONS about life - pulls them out of their cocoon. Makes them feel strange. They NEED the Matrix.
@RaikenXion

I guess its mostly cus the film raised alot of throught provoking questions and never answered them. I also really enjoyed the movie, Ive been waited for a sci-fi film (especially) like this for ages, and I was very satisfied with Prometheus, even though it may seem to hav sum plot holes and I will say "some" cus frankly Ive found many things hidden in the movie, people just need to watch it 2 or 3 times to really figure things out. But yes the big questions r not answered yet.

which kind of follows through with abrahamic religions being suprahuman in it's essence despite the apostasy of Christ being a man but which can be seen as a suprahuman power creating a speakpiece to interact with lowly humans, for instance similar to superman. But that doesn't deviate from the original image of an engineer donating his dna to earth to seed life either as a feeding ground for bioweapons or a faction that creates rather than destroys.

it's a shame because it's such a great looking film and had so much potential, i think they tried to look at too many profound subjects, artificial intelligence, ancient astronauts, science verses religion, etc. and didn't actually investigate any of them with any depth... hopefully the sequel to the prequel will be better, if there is one...

This film is not hostile towards Christianity. Shaw, (the main character), cares about Christianity; seen by the dream of her father, by her recovering her cross necklace, and by her saying that it is what she chooses to believe despite the events in this adventure onscreen. She asks even if aliens created life on Earth then who created those aliens -- God still remains. A sci-fi movie should not be substituted for a proper belief in God or Jesus, otherwise sci-fi becomes a substitute religion.
