One might suppose that, ‘Canopy’… it’s just a bunch of glass. Then you watch the video and realize what a piece of mechanical wizardry it truly is and all the behind-the-scenes efforts that went in to it. Once again, Bryan, you’ve pulled the curtain back on some beautiful history. Well done, sir. Well done!

I love the close up views at around 6:00 (+/-). They really show the age of this old bird, yet capture perfectly the fact that this IS history itself. Thanks again

I thought the canopy would be boring, but quite the contrary! The amount of wooden construction is surprising, but very logical e.g, the part surrounding the df antenna. Thoroughly enjoying your videos.

Brian, as the son of a B17 co-pilot. My late father flew some very long missions. Example, Uk to Russia. Russia to Italy. I can’t imagine a single pilot trying to go it along for that long. Consequently, my question is about a Lanc. Having a single pilot. Did the UK loose many Lancs.’do to the single pilot being killed or wounded?

Yes, they must have done. The Flight Engineer was often trained up by the Pilot in order to take over if the Pilot got hit. This would hopefully, give the crew some time to bale out. Thanks for watching

When were the tear-drop shaped "bulbs" used? Were they big enough to look down the length of the aircraft?

They were used mainly for looking below the aircraft. You can also look rearwards but the shape of the teardrop blister distorts the view. Thanks for watching
