I just bought the Away Carry on and largely because of your reviews. I do think the compression side is excellent and I appreciate the battery charger and the laundry bag. It is well engineered. I plan on using it on a trip in August to Europe. I think it can hold a lot of clothing and I can easily manage what I'd like to bring with it and a personal item. My only area of concern is how it will hold up aesthetically after the trip only because you have had some recent negative experiences in that regard.

I have traveled with this Open Story Target luggage and love it!! I was a bit worried as it is a touch on the wider side for international travel but thus far, I have been OK and the sides flex some. 🤞 I love the zippered compartments on both sides, especially when you have to take out toiletries for TSA so your clothes don't slip through an compression straps upon opening and things have shifted. I found the outside grooves get a little scuffed but nothing a damped cloth can't handle. My only wish was the compression straps were on the handle side for heavier items leaving the "opening side" for lighter items for better balance in the carry-on yet this is kinda nit picking at it. THANKS FOR POSTING AND SHARING ALL YOUR REVIEWS!!

@macymiller3417 So far, so good for him. My husband, on the other hand, likes to prop his feet/calves on it (to seat reclined) and have noticed that the top is starting to bow a bit. I have traveled with it internationally (as a carry-on and sometimes forced to check it only when there is no overhead space - not because of the dimensions), and it has held up. 🤞

I have done 1-2 trips a week for a year and a half with the Open Story bag from Target. I LOVE this bag. It takes brutal abuse, looks great, nice features, and the zippers are some of the best quality I have experienced. I would put this bag up against higher end bags all day. Oh, holy cow, people must be crazy to try and pass that first piece as an Away dupe. As someone who still doesn't travel as much as I'd like, I don't tend to buy expensive luggage - YET - but I love that Open Story carry on! Is it a 20"? Looks at least an inch or so shorter than the Away. Since it's more similar to the Beis carry on, I'd love to know if it holds the same amount. Since there are 2 compartments with a zip closure instead of one open one with a strap, I think I'd like it better than mine and might just have to head to Target! Thanks for the great find! Oh, and I've got one other Open Story bag that I bought as a personal item, and that is a great bag!

After a career and travel management and tourism marketing I can spot a cheap knock-off from great distances and the away is itself ... let's just ignore these knock-offs for a moment.. from the onset the away bag was a cheap knockoff. It's a plastic shell cheap bag. And then the knock-up started rolling in and then it's like seriously... does anyone on these design teams actually travel?? - Of course they scratch! - They're plastic! - Of course they develop cracks and become entirely useless! - They're plastic! - Of course the wheels break off and unlike Briggs and Riley or any of the top end bags you can't get a replacement and install it! - Their customer service is bad as the bags! These were designed to go into the landfills. The same is with tiktok... Anyone who's worked in marketing knows that these posts on tiktok are paid marketing. It's going to take years for the laws to come around like they finally did with adding hashtags to Instagram posts but all these people that have orgasms over things like luggage or peanut butter.. it's paid people! I personally haven't traveled with wheels in years. So I'm not interested in the entire lineup but I'm glad that you at least show that there are cheap alternatives that are even better than the "shining oracle" that away pretends to be. There were cheap plastic hard shell bags long before away. How they got Nordstrom to carry them is a mystery.

@@ItsTheKellys exactly! I don't recall if I saw them in the airport before I saw them at Nordstrom, but I stood in front of the display - Nordstrom basically taken up a huge area to design a platform for them. I stood there and smirked and looked side to side wondering if I was on a camera to somehow show the benefits of actually doing research before you buy a plastic bag.. but there were no cameras! This was truly a display of a plastic bag.. in Nordstroms! I chuckled and went on my way. But when I saw people carrying their scratched away bags all over I realized that the ruse worked, It just didn't work on me!

@@ItsTheKellys haha! I understood that you keep it kept it for videos sake and you might still want to hang on to it for those reasons but in all honesty if you've never used the platform I just made my first purchase off of Poshmark (because I had a voucher) and it actually works quite smoothly. I purchased a 1970 Samsonite Train case, if you can imagine and got free shipping too! When I looked around poshmark at what was purchased and resold.. if it's got a name on it people are gobbling it up! Your friend Beis for example.. all over the place. Poshmark is predictable.. I blocked all notifications so if I happen to go back to the website I'm hit with hundreds of notifications of all sorts of "parties" regarding dresses and shoes and Versace and oh . my . God . the gluttony is annoying. But if you just use it for this one sale it's cool!?! I'm sure your away bag would garner a good sale on poshmark.. are you sure you don't want to hold on to it so that when you're a rich and famous Instagram influencer you can autograph it and someone can buy it off your website!?! _That would make the away bag worth it, wouldn't it?_

I've used my Away bag for many trips, and not one scratch. Weird that yours is so scratched. Perhaps a defect? I enjoy the bigger carry-on size vs. the 20". Target's price is $169, and I paid $225 for my Away a while back, so for me not a big difference. Also, I purchased the navy blue so I'm thinking even if I had a scratch, it wouldn't be noticeable. My husband has the black one and no scratches on his either. We take extra good care of the luggage and handle it ourselves by doing carry-on only. I purchased luggage covers when I check the Away medium bags. They are both in good shape too. If Target's luggage came in the 'larger carry on size", I think it would be a good purchase.

I’m so glad your away bag is working out for you, that’s great to hear! Is yours the flex with the expandable? @@ItsTheKellys No, we do not have the flex. We purchased ours a while ago, and I know prices have gone up considerably. We just invested in the medium everywhere bags (for a personal item) to go with them. We will try them out when we go to Europe for 2 weeks.
