Jason Lollar is alumni and taught my pickup winding class when I was in luthiery school a few years ago. Got me to stop overthinking everything I did, and not only did my pickups come out amazing, but my builds ended up far better than they would have been. I love seeing a video here talking about him, and I love that Shabat is getting more praise and promotion. There is art that people love, and then there is art that blows minds and makes people question everything they thought they knew. Avi is without a doubt the latter. I got a set of Lollar P90s before I even knew we'd have a pickup winding class, little lone that he'd be teaching it. Got him to sign them before he left, and he told me about the person that wound them. He's a real curtains are blue because they're blue kind of person, which is refreshing in a field of people nitpicking the pointless.

Those guitars look like they are extremely well built and I'll take the Captain's word that they play good, but do we really need another "knock-off" relic line of guitars? Seems like a nice guy and I wish him good luck, but he is bringing "sand to the beach" as we used to say.
@lucianorosario5851

Exactly those guys should put their talents in doing original things, because at the end of the day nobody cares (or the majority) if they are well built people want that name on the headstock and non copi of an strat is gonna sound more "strat" than a fender Stratocaster!

And I assume this is one of those guitars that you only buy if you 'fall in love', and plan to KEEP it? I assume you won't get your $3600 back out of it if you ever decided to sell? Although, are there many used examples available? They might make a bit more financial sense at half the price?

To answer your question, I played his guitars at NAMM 23, and Yes. In fact his guitars are better put together and finished than 90% of any other F style guitar I’ve played at the price point. They are very welcome, don’t forget competition breeds excellence. More competition is only a good thing for the consumer. Fret work is silly good. I’d buy a Shabat 10/10 over a comparable fender just for fit and finish alone.

Awesome guitars. avi is a great example of the talent and innovation that flows out of israel. oz noy, another. There are too many amazing musicians and innovators in israel or from israel to mention. but it is worth mentioning. Even if Lee and Avi avoid any mention of the word “israel” during the discussion about shabbat’s origins for obvious business reasons. That’s a shame i reckon since avi should be openly proud of his heritage but, as someone who is half-jewish and pro-israel, i get it.
@ItOnlySmiles

It is a shame indeed. I can barely understand why Lee would want to avoid that, but I'd expect Avi to be disagree with that. Well, maybe in few years folks from you-know-where won't be able to visit Andertons anymore. Sad times.

Perhaps he is avoiding it to take politics and bias out of the equation and make it purely about guitars. You have a pro bias, but there will be some out there with an anti bias because of the actions of the Netanyahu govt. I think Lee is prudent to avoid the geopolitcis, because geopolitics has nothing to do with this.
@jeremyversusjazz
9 ай бұрын
@@pepmasters-999you just implied politics. i merely think its a shame a simple question like “so whered you start your company” cant even be asked. Avi dhould be able to reply “oh our first shop was in israel!” and then the conversation moves on still about guitars from there. maybe a comment about how the dry air was good for the wood or whatever. also i was clear to state the fact i understoodwhy the very mention of the word israel was avoided-just sad that someone like u even thinks about netenyahu in the context of a guitar builder who happens to be israeli. idgaf about netenyahu. 👊

@@pepmasters-999no dude. i understand it. but i dont like it. no one should be ashamed to be israeli and no Israeli should be afraid to say they’re proud to be a successful, productive and creative israeli bringing joy to the world by building beautiful boutique guitars. But hamas and the 70% of palestinians who voted them into power and continue to support the psychotic and gleeful slaughter of oct 7 should be afraid of israelis. very very afraid. anyhow, you dragged my comment into the geopolitical realm-i was just noting the sad fact post oct 7 of an israeli guitar builder and a jewish music store head having to avoid even uttering the word “israel” thereby erasing avi’s interesting and relevant origin story for fear of all manner of reprisal. furthermore, when lee interviewed oz noy at length last year the topic of the israeli music scene and oz’s own origins were 50% of a very wide ranging and interesting interview. the contrast now is sad. Even if u hate israel and blame them for all your problems, avi and lee anderton shouldnt have to worry about being on your enemies list just for discussing where a guitar company got started. its a f$&@ing woke joke. 😘peace out.

Maybe it’s just late and I’m tired, but my immediate reaction within seconds of this video was, “What the hell is that pig ugly headstock all about”. Small minded perhaps but it just goes to show how polarising such things can be even for a person that thought they were open minded about all brands and models/shapes of guitars 🤷♂️
