As a former member of the ROYAL CANADIAN MOUNTED POLICE regimental band, now disbanded this was a real treat. Not mentioned enough is the sheer excellence of how they got 4,000 Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Aviators to, at ONE command, from ONE RSM to step off at the same time and have the same drumbeat (and music) across the whole parade. The front ranks were in step with the last ranks who were a mile back. And then at Buckingham Palace they merged 12 across into 6 across to enter the gate. All done at one command and without fault. No one, but NO ONE, does these occasions like us Brits.

The overlap between each band is significant as every band played the same list of music as the whole parade was in lockstep and the bass drummers beat the same beat along the whole parade. So the lead units heard the same music the last units heard. CRAZY! Utterly astounding discipline to get 4,000 people to step off as one. The music was as always excellent.

I’d heard so much about it and couldn’t believe it wasn’t shown in full even it it was first and foremost about the Coronation (which we did rightly see the whole of) .Why couldn’t they have given the option of watching the parade in its entirety? Thank goodness for things like this; the biggest chunk of the parade I’ve seen so far! I remember last year’s platinum jubilee when the Irish Guards were trooping their colour. They were seen entering the Mall and the next shot of them was when they were entering Horseguards, not a glimpse of them marching down the Mall. Thank you for this, it was marvellous to see. I’ll have more searches for more of the same on KZitem. (Feel especially glad for those who saw their relatives marching in this video because they wouldn’t have had much chance yesterday!)😊
