If you want to be completely prototypical, the turret should be pointing to the rear of the tank for transport (train, air, or truck). It doesn't look as cool, but that's I have always seen and it allows you maximize space as cargo. Thanks for sharing!

Great video as usual. Not to be a stickler for details but as a former Abrams tank crewman I thought you should know you have the turrets pointed in the wrong direction. When you rail transport an Abrams the turret is pointed backwards and the gun barrel is locked into horizontal position. You'd also never have the machine guns on the roof due to theft concerns.

I like making things look somewhat prototypical, but then again I'm using 3-rail track so there's also just a "fun" element there. I seriously considered running a lash-up consisting of one of my european steam engines, an american modern diesel engine and then an american steam engine taking up the rear....just to mess with people.

Hello Eric: I'm new to the model railroad hobby and I would like to ask. When you have more than one locomotive pulling a train, do all of the locomotives pull the train and the main locomotive has the sounds? Or does the main locomotive do all the pulling?
@StrictlySteam
4 жыл бұрын
13 Endercreeper it depends. Usually with diesels, there could be a non-powered unit as well as a powered unit, or even just both powered, as a lash-up. There aren’t any non-powered Steam locomotives that I’m aware of, so you’d usually just do a lash-up as well. Hope this helped!

PS; I noticed that on one of your engine reviews, the noise was in the front, the smoke acted in sink with the engine speed and activity. I do not need a 24" long train, if some were a little smaller. I don't think the 700E is quite that big. I typical like the steam engine, My father took us every weekend to watch them in Washington DC, before that were taken out of service. I also thought that it might be cool to get trains that ran in DC/ Balt. and NY and maybe do a layout based on a real DC one. We had GG1's. Many yards with cranes etc. remember the military was here during the war. My Father was in the Coast Guard and Capt. of a sub chaser. We had a set up in the basement circa 1950's. I also met Raymond Loewy when my father built Lord and Taylor in Chevy Chase. He designed their stores......I am a metal worker and can build things to scale , like the trestle bridges you show in your sets. I don;t know how much they cost, but I can make then in metal, to scale. What is the scale for these sets, I meant to ask you that.

Eric, the turrets on the M1's are in the wrong direction. Turrets are always in 6 o'clock position during rail and truck transport, as the barrel can be secured and the turret locked. The chains go over cross in the tie downs in the front and back of the hull, not over the tank before and aft of the turret like a piece of poorly secured cargo.
@bagnome

If you're in college and in an apartment, it's probably best to set up some sort of modular layout or a layout that can easily be moved. If you subscribe to some of the magazines in the hobby, they usually have articles about building small/portable layouts on a regular basis. I'd start there.
