I only recently got into crawlers and got me a Capra. I have added aluminum bead locks with inner brass rings. Hyrax tires, and treal belly plate with a stainless steel cover plate to protect from scraping up the really nice red aluminum treal belly. I also added front treal brass portals. I also did the pen spring mod and an o-ring mod to stop the shock oil leaks. It was amazing stock, but now it’s just crazy the things this thing can climb. More mods planned for later too. Great crawler platform, and extremely modifiable.

Have you shot any before and after comparison of climbs with and without the rear link riser installed? I tried mine out today with good results with rear shocks laid forward, but lost the ability to balance on the point of roll over when I stood shocks up, just to try differences. I always found mine to be awesome to balance on tipping point and work the front wheels to get back down. Similar boulder scenario to your excellent footage. I'm ready to try some different foams to hopefully improve tyre grip as I feel the Capra wants to keep going. Love the channel and the footage and vehicles you bring us. Looking forward to vs410pro footage. Cheers 👍

Would there be any advantage to using the 'Dig' in those places where it wants to tip over backwards? Put the rear wheels in neutral and essentially have front wheel drive to pull over the rock? Thanks for the video and all you work!
@mickd8188
4 жыл бұрын
The Capra dig isn't so smooth to use all the time. Can be, but not always. In those situations your referring to, once the rear is in neutral it won't hold dug into the climb. Kinda of releases it's upward drive as there is no weight on the front at that moment. It's good to play around with and sometimes it will hold and work to your favour, but not always. Cheers 👍
@RCReviewChannel
4 жыл бұрын
No, when dig is used to freewheel the rear, it simply doesn't have enough grip to climb any of these. Have tried about 50 situations where dig could have an advantage in these courses. Haven't really found any. Steep descents, dragging the rear is not really an advantage over a controlled motor that holds the wheels well. It' main edge really seems to be the extremely tight turns (not steep) where 3-point turns get a deduction (competitions).

For the capera you need to learn how to use the dig. On vertical climbs use the dig to suck the front end down then engage 4x4 again. You could have made all those climbs with some dig practice. When your rear tire went under the rock go even farther to the right and carry the right rear tire in the air.

So far with my limited running, the Capra seems to be intended for slow crawling, doing other wise makes it a little unpredictable, like the throttle bumping. Means you have to be quite careful with tire and foam selection and one pairing may not be the best for the terrain currently venturing, best grip isn't always best, sometimes you need the tire to slide a little. So far it seems that the Voodoo KLR/M (shoulder is fairly firm) with single stage foams or the Pro Line SuperSwamper TSL/SX (Predator) with lil' Nova two stage 4.5 medium front and firm rear (my pick as best overall) works best in my area. Next I am trying BoomRacing Hustlers which like the Voodoo's have a pretty firm shoulder and side wall and CI's lil' Nova in 4.25 med front and 4.5 med rear. But what about the Hyrax.. won't pick them, I prefer a more scale tread design, and still expecting them to one day hit the banned list for SORRCA. I could very well end up going to my fail safe Pro Line BFG Krawlers. Its a crawler so I am using high mass wheel sets and don't worry too much about rolling mass. I also skipped the Dig and went with 4WS instead. Overall I am very impressed with the performance now, Axe 2300, 11t pinion, half spring pen mod, overdrive front, Reefs 422's to get it pointed in the right direction (on CC BEC). The drawback is the width, going to make for some interesting maneuvers now.
@RCReviewChannel

yeah, that's unfortunate. Slow crawling usually means it's not engineered right. In any case, the gearing is so high at 30:1 gear reduction and it's not easy to get it lower.

@@RCReviewChannel its not that hard. you just picked the wrong electronics. hh crawlmaster pro has multiple options for mounting the motor and can easily get a 9 tooth pinion inside the original motor housing. The riser he is using is available on Shapeways at www.shapeways.com/shops/3-axis-design. There are several variations currently available. There is also a 2-hole mounting version as well as a link riser that features the same upper link triangulation as stock, but in a raised mounting location to increase anti-squat.

Love watching the Capra. Haven't yet had the chance (partly due to work, partly due to working on two other projects, partly due to wife) to take it out for some "extreme" testing, but looking forward to it...as soon as I can. That being said, I gotta ask this. Where, exactly, is this 'testing ground' located? I've been looking for some really good locations to test my Capra, as well as whatever other crawlers I end up building (the Trail King is mostly finished...needs an ESC, body, wheels, and tires), but haven't come across anything as of yet. I thought about Hellyer Park, but it sucks. I tried Santa Teresa Country Park, but there was nothing worthwhile. Baylands Park is great for the drone, but don't think they have anything for crawling. For "general/extreme testing", I don't want to have to travel to far from San Jose...say, 30 minutes max...but I need something better than a basic hillside, a pile of cinder blocks, or a bunch of twigs across a tiny creek. I could contact you by email, but I don't know the email address (plus, for obvious reasons, I don't exactly want to post my personal email address on KZitem).
