Once u realize how versatile the steam deck is with its layout its hard to justify anything else. The back buttons on the steam deck (and any other button) can be remapped on the fly while in game... so every game is made into a custom personable experience. Easy: The Steam Deck. Albeit being Linux, imagine SteamOS being the easy to use and endlessly expandable platform comparable to what drives next-gen consoles. Windows on the other hand is an utterly mess in such handheld format. I own both the Ayaneo 2 and Steam Deck - and while the AN2 is on paper indeed more powerful than the Deck, it has to utilise nearly 150% of the max(!) TDP of the Deck to see those performance gains at all. All the while the Steam Deck has an incredible input feature set, I’ve never seen before. Ayaneo’s software and drivers sadly are garbage as well. If you want to simply have portable fun - pick the Deck.

I sold my 512GB Steam Deck after owning it for almost 9 months. I got $625 out of it and put that directly towards the Ayaneo 2 order. The simple reason is because of the more premium parts and design. I know most people don't have a problem with the Steam Deck's screen, but after having my 512GB and testing out a 256GB model as well, I just could never get over how poor quality the Steam Deck's screen is. Not used to Matt getting it wrong. But he got it very wrong regarding the SD. I can only assume he’s never used one. The touchpad and gyro are irreplaceable. And performance is neck and neck at 10-15 watts. Ergonomics on the SD is also perfect. They went through something like 30 prototypes before landing on the final form, and it shows. Also, forget the price. Valve can afford to sell these with low profit margins… they, benefit from every sale in the store.

@@MatthewMonizOh, hey Matt! You mentioned “One of the comments I kept seeing in my video was that the Steam Deck was a better product - Quite frankly, it’s not. It’s definitely cheaper…” That’s where I take issue. Maybe you have extensive experience with a SD and have your reasons… but it would be great to know what those are. I cannot fathom giving up the touchpads or gyro. And steams software is excellent. As an Xbox gamer, I do miss not having Game Pass like the AYANEO, but it’s a small enough price to pay. You might be shocked how often the touchpads (and gyro) come in useful. Not just for desktop mode, but for tinkering with launchers, MMO’s (wow classic / dragonflight), sorting in-game inventory and more. With these other products, you’re almost forced to keep a BT keyboard and mouse close by. Hopefully you do a deep dive on a SD one day. I recently preordered an Aya Neo 2. I have had a Steam Deck since the beginning of April but the screen on the 512GB model is so bad that I just didn’t enjoy playing it. I’m not a huge fan of Steam OS either. It’s too hit and miss as to what games will work. Some verified games don’t even start. I just found the whole experience quite frustrating. On top of that, when I hit the option in the settings to reset my Steam Deck to factory settings so I could sell it, I got a Fatal Error message. This is something that Valve are aware of. In order to fix it, I had to go out and buy an Ethernet to usb-c adapter so that I could connect my Steam Deck directly to my router so that it could download the software required to perform the factory reset. 🤷♂️🤬

That fatal error happened to me too as Im expecting my ayaneo 2 white 32gb ram 2tb ssd to come this Wednesday so wanted to give my steam deck to my cousin as his PC recently went bust and yeah factory rest the deck and got stuck on that loop. The screen is so bad on the Steam Deck, even with plugins. I had my 512GB Steam Deck since March and sold it in November. I also tried a 256GB Deck and while the screen was glossier, it didn't improve the poor contrast and colors much at all, still tons of light bleed too. Hey Cameron, I can't answer Questions 1 and 2 since I've personally never used the Steam Deck. But for #3 this is more powerful than the steam deck and would have a better chance of running Elden Ring, Forza etc. Just know that you'll still have to reduce settings to obtain decent frame rates.

From a Steam Deck perspective: Both devices Matthew is reviewing run Windows and are more powerful than a the SD (33W is major) plus both the OneXPlayer and Ayaneo 2 have better displays running at 1920 x 1200. Both have the NVMe 2280 for the storage where the Steam Deck has the much harder to find (outside the US) and often much more expensive 2230 form factor for the SSD. The benefit for the Steam Deck are the price point and the emulation, I do not know how the emulation is on these two devices on display. The Steam Deck also runs its own version of Arch Linux meaning that updates can be rolled out very quickly (and sometimes break the path to the MicroSD card). I believe that when you get into the steam gaming system you want to use the most powerful handheld with the best balance between playtime and fastest charging. The Steam Deck has only 1 USB-c (10Gb max) port where the Ayaneo 2 has USB 4 and as Matthew was saying you can hook it to an eGPU making it more console or gaming pc like. My main reason for using the Steam Deck is the emulation to run retro games just as easy as owning like a Nintendo Switch. Let's just say that the SD is the Yukon and the Ayaneo 2 is the Cadillac Lyriq if you want to compare it to cars. We always need to remember that this is mobile gaming in 2022/2023 and that this is a new, very quickly, developing market. Valve needs to be very concerned that their future is not dynamic enough, best would have been to announce the SD2 at CES. The SD is more like a competitor to the Nintendo Switch (non OLED). But this is just my opinion, do with it what you like. Have a prosperous and healthy New Year

Other than that I used the trackpads maybe 10 times while configuring something in desktop mode (ReShade plugins mostly). Adding trackpads to this would make it just as big as the Steam Deck, and IMO that's a bad thing. It's probably more about the type of games I play, I'm not a first-person shooter type of guy.
