Sokka out here making inventions and just all around smart as hell. Katara again, can deliver WHOLE ASS BABIES AS A TEENAGER. Sokka highkey a poet and didn't even know it. Toph is toph. And now we find out both Aang and Katara have the hidden talent of dance.........These kids have too much power.

This ep is kinda sad because we learn the Aang LOVES the Fire Nation. His best friend was FN, Firebending was the element he was most excited to learn (and he picked up on it quickly). He never seemed to be a fan of WT food (see Bato of the Water Tribe), and he never visited Ba Sing Se (the cultural center of the EK), because it was so different from what he grew up with. Waking up "a few days later" and finding out the people he loved wiped out the people he loved must have been the most jarring thing for Aang.

Something else that's crazy is when he spent time in the fire nation before he found out he was the avatar, just ya know having fun experiencing fire nation culture and having fun with Kuzon, in the fire nation capital Sozin was in power and was actively plotting to wipe out Aang's people, biding his time for the comet to come. Aang surely knew of Sozin but at the time just saw himself as some random airbender and had nothing to do with fire nation royalty and politics. He never could have imagined how his destiny and his past were intertwined with Sozin and his future descendants, and what Sozin was planning to do to his people.

Like when she warns him that their father is going to kill him (even if she's also teasing) and she does tell her mother who puts a stop to it. Giving him the credit for killing the avatar only helps her if he does show up again, bringing him back in anyway literally keeps her from being next in line for the thrown. my favourite aspect of this episode is how you see the indoctrination of fire nation youth. fire lord ozai's face is everywhere in the school, everything is about having pride in the fire nation, they misrepresent history to suit their agenda. while it's for the most part a silly and fun ep, it does highlight some interesting, enlightening, frightening, and realistic things about a country that is trying to take dominance over the rest of the world

Since I saw how much you enjoy the music in the show I've been waiting for you to see this episode. This episode....and one other, it's pretty fire. This episode can't be filler. I've long since realized people don't know what that means, even traveling to the final destination is showing story progression and if it deals with theme it's not filler. Like The Fortuneteller lays out the theme of the entire show, the main theme of following your own destiny. This one is more of a side theme, there can be more than one theme, this is about the effect of war and propaganda. And just to call your attention to that little school misinformation moment, that was SOOOOOO great and to have it in a kid's show, I just can't with how good this show is. There's also character development too so it's an important episode for sure. Some reactors are kind of childish and get bored too easy. Most people I think like this episode though. I mean there's also people who just want to block out any Kataang stuff and ignore her obvious interest. But oh well.

I've gotta say, the little tsungi horn riff during the prison scene (from 16:07-16:14) is one of my favorite themes in the entire show, and so underrated. I wish they'd done more with it, it's so gorgeous and emotional.

The humor in this episode makes it absolutely golden even though it's more of a filler. "You must be one of those popular kids I've been hearing about." Boy ... the sincerity makes it better. "Hm. I am a fan of secret rivers." Like you're a fan of secret tunnels? Every time we see Zuko visiting Iroh, Zuko is the one with bars in front of him, not Iroh. (Not humorous) Wang Fire's beard. I studied Aang's and Katara's dance for a solid week, wondering if my husband-to-be and I were strong and coordinated enough to do it as our First Dance. As neither of us had been in gymnastics for 20 years, it was a resounding NO, but it was fun to imagine.
@sirmoonslosthismind

did you realize the dance is actually a waterbending drill? that's how they were able to be so synchronized without any apparent practice. aang whispered in her ear which drill he wanted her to do. other than the dip at the end, these are in fact all movements they've practiced to death.

This episode make me sad because we see how all the Fire Nation is endoctrinate to follow the Fire Lord cult until the death from a young age and that Zuko and Azula if their parents (mostly Ozai to me but Ursa too) dont fuck with them, could have a real brotherhood relationship. Azula is warning Zuko and she has nothing to gain to doing it and I think she sincere. But she's so manipulative and "always lie" that even when she's honest, everybody believe she has a agenda because it's mostly the case. In this season, we can see Azula trying to bond with people, trying to act like her age, to not be a monster, but she falling again in her agressive way because it's the one she's know and feel naturel. That's tragic.

I love how you pay attention to the music! It's a small part of this particular episode, but seeing your reactions to Mai/Zuko, and how Mai reacts to Azula, is just wonderful. Seeing your theories on the third-eye guy Zuko hires is really getting me hyped for the coming episodes! I think this episode was great at showing the revisionist history the Fire Nation was using to ensure the loyalty of their people and the way they were erasing their own culture by suppressing things like the phoenix flight dancing because creative expression doesn't fit that well into a war machine.

I think Iroh is pretty much the only person who wouldn't be mad at Zuko for that. Hurt and disappointed, yes, but not mad. Sometimes when I watch the show I forget that Iroh must've had a pretty similar childhood to Zuko, because he's so balanced and peaceful. But his father Azulon was the one who said Ozai should kill Zuko in exchange for the throne. There's something wrong with the second born children in the royal family man.

Aside from being entertaining as hell, you know why I LOVE Aege's videos? Dude picks right the fuck up on things so many people never see in rewatch after rewatch. The Fire nation civilian side is shown to be very american, and the reason we all remember that is because it was forced on us for 12 years every day. Even if we didn't say it ourselves, someone in the class did. we still had to hear it thousands upon thousands of times.

presumably iroh lost that apartment when the fire nation took over ba sing se. and that's the thing. zuko still sees the fire nation's final victory in the war as inevitable, so he's not taking any personal responsibility for the outcome in ba sing se. in zuko's mind, he had an opportunity to get back in with the winning side, and he took it, and iroh is crazy for not joining him. but iroh of course was disenchanted with the war a long time ago.
