Sachy directorial debut film Anarkali is a nice romantic film made in the background of lakshwadeep. Sachy also penned story and screenplay so many hit films such as chocolate, robinhood, makeup man, Sherlock tomes, driving license, ramaleela, etc. Sachy was just awesome ❤💯

So what you slap your wife to indirectly slap your father? The issue is the slap wasn’t even dealt with. The wife just took it like she deserved it! It was an amazing movie but I didn’t get what that slap added to the movie. The director wanted to show Koshy and Ruby stand up to the father, but slapping the wife is a really problematic way to go about it. Don’t normalise it saying that Northerners won’t understand South films.

With all due respect Paaji. I am a fan of your reviews. I appreciate the fact that you have spent time on watching this movie and made this review. Hope you take this as an encouragement. The parts or the scenes that you haven't liked or felt inappropriate to this movie were apparently turned out the best part of the movie. This is not the the first malayalam movie that have been made to showcase character drama. This movie has lots of different shades related to politics and lives of a suppressed society. And the folk song/music that u heard in the background was not a funny music. That was the brilliance of the makers to keep the people remain on the topic. Its always your choice what to talk or express. It would be cool when u dont know the language of the movie that you watching and u have lot of questions in your mind "Why this?" . Find answers for your questions before you post a video. If this vlog is serious.

But questioning different sequences with similar intention behind the questions makes it to question the reviewer at this point... Like find the answers before posting the review.. There might be something that u might have not grabbed as it should have been right? So u will have that in mind and put it in a way like "I didn't understand the sequence or its necessity at the point, but when I researched I got to know this is why it why the way it is".. Just a friendly advice 😊👍

Thank you Nona once again for your insightful, clever , to the point critique . I would like to address your concern over the customary “slapping of the woman “ scene in this movie. As a Malayali woman I have always been thoroughly disgusted at the “slap the woman “ scene that pops up suddenly , out of nowhere , for no good reason , in otherwise artfully made , well written , superbly directed movies coming out of Kerala . As a film critic, can you please look into the origins of this recurring scene that repeats in Malayan movies . You can examine some of the great black and white Kerala movies for evidence ! PS I am an admirer of Malayalam Cinema . If these comments disturb or embarrass those moviemakers who find it necessary to add this sliver of “abusive obscenity “ to their work , to boost the Kerala male’s ego ....... it is intentional ! oh no! The last scene is the best. This is when the enemies become friends by shaking hands. That was really a good climax. It takes some time to digest what all happened and at the end they realise there is lot of similarities and that is what makes them like each other. Quite often enemies actually are very similar characters and when the cloud of hate/dislike lifts they see they have more in common are likable to each other rather than being indifferent people.

Bro really appreciate and love to see people from all over India showing thr interest in Malayalam Cinema and enjoy watching it. Now coming to your review about this movie it is not a typical masala movie and you can not claim to have fully understood the movie even if you understand the language the reason you find many flaws in it...you also need to understand the culture thr the people thr respect for nature the way policing is done in the State and lot many things to really enjoy it... Now coming to the background music it is not at all funny its a tribal music which is been played throughout infact that makes the movie more vibrant to the local audience.

Great review! Just loved it. I just disagree with one point in your review and that is regarding the spoon feeding of Ayyappan's backstory. There is 2 ways to look at it. One is from the eye of the viewer. If you look at it from that aspect, then yes you may feel it is being spoon fed. But the opening scene doesnt explain much about his backstory other than he is sort of an assassin/killer. Now look at it from the aspect of Koshy! He is completely confused as to what the hell just happened and he may have just felt that its just a show of intimidation from Ayyappan's end. The Police officer who has known Ayyappan for a very long time realized at that very moment when Ayyappan told him that he is no longer bound by laws (Just look at how the police officer gets stunned suddenly. He also tries to advice Ayyappan not go back to his old ways for this matter at the superiors office ) and that he is out for blood and whatever he does may not be able to save Koshy. He knows Koshy is also head strong. So his only option is to warn Koshy as to what he has gotten himself into and hope that he backs off. Hope that makes more sense! PS: Just before the fight scene starts you see Ayyappan remove his sandals. This is sort of a symbolism as to him leaving civilization behind and turning into an animal. Sort of like Bruce Banner turning into the HULK!!

This cinema is talking about the politics in many things. About the toxic masculinity and patriarchy prevailing in the society which tells especially through the high class orthodox Christian family in central kerala, where Koshy is from. About the risky and dangerous lives of police officers and their emotions. About the tribal people in the lower layers of so called 'social strata' fighting for there daily lively hood etc. And changing the cliche making formula of hero and villain.

The last scene of a handshake was probably to reconfirm to both sides that they've decided to move on, probably understanding that there is more to lose , that there is to gain and how futile their entire issue was. Also, a small cheer scene, so that the younger fans of both the male leads don't take the onscreen drama, off screen. Kerala has a fan association problem of its own.

The sort of conciliatory handshake was necessary because the two characters realized that everything and anything they do or did impacted everyone around them and things were handled by people around them rather than within themselves, which was taking matters to a whole other vicious level. Glad you enjoyed the film Nona bro and Great review 😃😍🙏👍Respect and Pranamam to Sachy Sir🙏🌹

Thats why malayalam film instustry become better!there are many great movies in 80s 90s like Manichitrathazhu,Kireedam,Guru (what a shame that a movie like GURU [1997] is on top imdb 250 lndian list😵), Ee thanutha velupoan kaalathu, Yavanika,Oh faby (One of asia's first animation character oriented film) My dear kuttichathan (India's first 3D film) Desharatham and many more💎s. Malayalam film industry criminally underrated!😍

This movie is not just about Ayyappan and Koshy and their machismo but between classes, colours and attitudes in society. The women in the film have the chance to voice their opinions and views amidst the toxic masculinity and machoism. They speak for themselves and the people around with their life experiences.(Koshi's wife Ruby (Anna Rajan) intervenes between her husband and father -in-law and admonishes Kurien for triggering Koshi to indulge in a warfare with Ayyappan.) Scene ends with Ruby getting a tight slap from Koshi, indirectly implies sarcastically that it's always a man's world , at the same time by the slap koshi counters his own argument on the participation of women in the larger scheme of things. I think the character whatever in the film Ayyappanum Koshyum doesn’t necessarily promote the idea of men beating women just for the sake of it. Now, what is the argument? That a man beating his wife is wrong? Yes, of course, it is wrong, wrong, wrong and a crime under domestic violence. Does it happen in our society? Yes, of course. Was it out of character for the male character to beat the female character in the film? May be and may not be. Was it still okay to show it if it was out of character? Let the director/artist be the authority. It is one of the privileges of creation/art (whether driven by artistic aims, arbitrary whims or monetary cunning) that everything can only follow it (the incident, the slap). If the scene was not there in the film, there was no way this debate could have existed. So what do we want? Not to show such toxic male acts on screen? No. I would say it is more like our PM Modi erecting a wall around slums in Gujrat so that Trump would not see the poverty in his home state. You may be able to hide it for some time, but it is still going to be there. And the walls will come down exposing all, sooner than later.

Nice review and appreciate pointing out the 'slapping'. Also would like to mention something on the "Nair" (considered upper caste in Kerala) thing - in one of the scenes Koshy says that Ayyappan is actually not a Nair by birth but he has bought the name and is a "Hybrid", a Nair now but not by birth. It is very displeasing to see the flag being raised for the upper caste and a character is shown striving to be one of them, which is casteist and degrading people belonging to other communities. The fact that Ayyappan marries a woman from tribal community is liberating but again it pulls down when Ayyappan is wanting to be a Nair just because the society holds it higher than others. If this scene was devised as a comment on the actual reality then there is not a problem, rather it was placed as it is and throughout the movie Ayyappan is clearly addressed as "Ayyappan Nair" or "Nair", just supporting the casteist statement it laid out in that scene. We can enjoy the movie as a story and character dual but things like these need to be addressed as well.

U r wrong about slap, the intention was hes still afraid of his dad,and that slap was on the face his dad. He was giving the message to his dad but still afraid or have some respect towards his dad.He was giving message that hes no longer want to be under his wings,it was an act of rebellion of a coward so to speak.

So his wife doesn't have any value at all? All she did was be a typical indian daughter in law. Would it be well received if she slapped her husband because she couldn't slap her father in law? Some logic you have there👏👏

@@poojanair2974 Dont bring feminism or patriarchy bla bla.the character both son and father depicted that way already. If it was a women liberation film probably wuld have done that way or the the message which was on that culd have shown the wife leaves him etc.I just said what was the intention.

I watched a movie called Minaminnungu (The Firefly). I think you should watch it for the female lead if not for anything else. And I also really liked Su Su Sudhi Vathmeekam.
