I've got a Polar Lights Big E in 1:350 scale in my model kit stash along with a set of your aztec masks from back when you had them on the black vinyl. Suddenly that never started kit is calling out to me again to 'Get Er Done'. Thinking of keeping it simple and using a flat white base coat and pearl white for the aztec patterns.

I’m glad you’re showing this but the Aztekking looks rather laborious and that is an obvious statement but nevertheless thank you for showing this procedure. Glad to see you’re vid pop up tonight. I haven’t made a model in years, I have built the Enterprise-A but just watching you build models and showing your skills off is cool to watch.

Hi, again. I'll be doing a 2-color job. What I plan on doing is , (after priming and all that,) is doing a solid coat of a pearlescent or some paint that will give a shine for the whole thing as a base color. Then, I want to gently airbrush on your mask sheets a second complementary color shiny paint before weeding. Then I'll weed and stick the mask on the ship for it to stay there. The main reason I want to do this is to give the "plates" some depth with the slight thickness of the mask material itself. The second reason is all the painting is done. I know you don't have masks for the rest of the ship so I'll create a file for a Cricut machine for that. Anyway, my question is, the adhesive on your mask material - how long do you think they'll last before getting brittle? A month? A year or two? I know you've said you have done things like this to beef up the plating on the Klingon ship. Thanks again!
@aztekdummy
3 жыл бұрын
I worry that the paint will flake off of the vinyl when you peel it up from the sheet. the vinyl itself will stick for years and if you put it on the bare plastic and primer over it, even longer
@kevinbirnbaum6460
3 жыл бұрын
@@aztekdummy Hmmm. I see. Maybe put the material, unweeded, on the ship, spray paint, and then weed carefully so as not to mark up the painted base? I mean the worst that can happen is I'm out the cost of the mask, buy another one, and do it all with paint and try to make the plated look some other way. maybe there's a paint that goes down thicker. Oh, well, I am super respectful of your time. You have a wonderful weekend!
@kevinbirnbaum6460
3 жыл бұрын
@@aztekdummy Ok, then. I think I have a solution. I'll keep the mask on. I will lay down, trim, and gently burnish bare metal foil on the material. I've been watching a lot of tutorials about it and I think it'll look great.

I have the 1/350 I have been looking for a very good and reliable how to Aztec, I am getting the Masks from Cult man Tv, I take it they are your mask's..? they do look the same, and this film is very detailed on how to do aztecs on the 1/350, I am fine with the lighting, building and many of the other issues that need to be done, but the aztecs always had me, with your "how to" I can make a go of it, thank you for sharing and I have subscribed to you Chanel for future updates, if there is any other help please let me know, I think the build will be a very long one but worth it and I will post my project to my Chanel with references back to your self, thank you for sharing your info, skills and knowledge.

Not all primers are sandable, as I’ve discovered to my dismay. Lacquer ones (like what you use) generally, but definitely not enamel. The new acrylic primers like Badger’s Stynlrez are, too, but not Vallejo’s.

I do not understand why people go to the trouble of doing the final aztec detail work on these kits at the beginning BEFORE any assembly is even begun! That seems like the dumbest approach to such a detailed kit. Why not do all your wiring and lighting, then assemble the saucer halves so you can take the time to do all the seam work and sanding and make the surface perfect, THEN start the detailed painting??? To do all that paint work FIRST then assemble, putty and sand just seems like an accident waiting to happen. Repainting and refinishing are unavoidable at this point. Or are these "model masters" so freakin awesome that they can just do everything willy nilly and ass backwards that us mere mortal modelers can't begin to comprehend their awesomeness??

Lou, I am in need of a recue. I have been trying to build the 350 scale Refit for years. On my third open box kit. I want a good looking representation and I can't seem to get it right. I bought your masks back when the kit first came out and could not use them right. That kit ended up lost some where. So I got the kits that have the full azteking. That didn't work out to well. And the third is opened and just barely started. My fear took over and I put it away. I am looking for someone to build it up for me. I have the Photo-etch and lighting. Just need the build up and painting. Please help.
