In this video I discuss the various features of B&G's award winning Sailsteer. In order to simulate the features of the Sailsteer instrument, I used the Zeus3 demo mode. In the video the simulation goes through a few tacks.
Things to watch for in the video:
The course over ground (COG) 'hourglass' indicator
Magnetic heading, the largest number on the compass rose
True (T) and Apparent (A) wind indicators
Laylines and the highlighted areas representing wind-shifts
Rudder position indicator
One thing I didn't mention in the video is the blue arrow at the center. This arrow represents the trigonometric difference between the over-ground vector and the through-the-water vector... yeah.. not in the video.
Long story short, it is the measured and calculated value of the tidal current. Specifically it is not, a predicted value from a tide table. Remember, this measured value will only be as accurate as your paddlewheel is clean.
