There is a big controversy in Germany. The „Böhse Onkelz“ used to be a far-right nazi band in their first few years. To be fair, they changed their attitude over the years. But as you can imagine there are still many people saying that the Onkelz are still far-right suckers and there are many people saying the opposide. Greetings from Germany 🤘

The Onkelz were never a "nazi band". Even when they where skinheads, they considered themselves to be "non political". Yes, they had a short phase when they were kind of xenophobic, mainly because of some clashes that they had had with violent turkish youth gangs, when they were still teen aged punks. Which led to the 2 anti-turkish-immigrant-songs that they made, before they even released their first album. And those 2 songs were only featured on a demo tape, so never officialy released. Besides that, they never had any racist or fascist songs (unlike some of the other skin bands from that time). They also never endorsed or promoted any right wing parties and turned down every offer of such parties to play on their gatherings. Actually, the very reason for them to let their hair grow and finally leave the skinhead scene in 1985-86 was that it became more and more right wing and racist. And they just didn't want to be part of such a scene and play for such audiences.
