🔵 In Hungarian public discourse, there are still very sharp opinions and criticisms about the impotence of the Hungarian army organisation in 1918-19. Some of the approaches point only and exclusively to the Károlyi government; others, for reasons of ideological commitment, simply ignore the fact that the Red Commune (Tanácsköztársaság), in its own way, but ultimately continued the Károlyi experiment of army organisation. The closing year of the First World War was marked by an unheard-of number of difficulties, including the fact that soldiers returning from the front were immersed in drinking alcohol much sooner than in defending the borders, the peasantry in the countryside was undergoing a regular revolution, Hungary was surrounded on all sides by hostile forces, and I have not even mentioned the Spanish flu.
