I prefer the old B&W Matrix 801s to the current Nautilus 800/801 series. They even measure much better compared to the new. It's remarkable how little progress has been made in hi fidelity equipment for decades.

The idea that the new type would be better sometimes collapses. I think the world of audio is completely different from computers and smartphones. There are also the opposite cases, but it seems to fail if you think of superiority based on new/old models.

what idiocy is this ; a movie video of static objects playing through a mic ,several amps , and an iphone or whatever .. to judge the sound quality of the speakers ?
@audiodio
5 жыл бұрын
If you look at it simply, it is hard to judge sound quality by video. Because I eventually listen to my own speakers. However, if you listen to the sound of each type of u-tuber recording in the same form, you will feel different. When you listen to that point, you will find a little reason.

I am a big big fan of Matrix series. I listen to 802M-S2 and 805M and find them beautiful. The only thing that new tweeter bought with them is more details but taken away many things IMO.

I also like the matrix. I changed it to 801-3 now. 801-2 or 801-3 is a good speaker. The 801-3 is much easier to drive and more popular.

I have a pair of 801 Series II Matrix speakers, but many years back replaced the crossovers with outboard North Creek crossovers. Huge improvement in sound; much stronger bass and fuller mids. They also benefitted from putting them on Sound Anchor stands. The stock crossovers were their greatest weakness --- once replaced with good ones they became truly world class.

Brand new crossover and cables and now a brand new crazy good speaker... i'm affraid to sell them now.... i don't want to regret later... 😉😋 I drive them with 3 amps..( once at a time ) a M-Fidelity M8 500S, an old Sony NA-80ES and finally a Counterpoint SA-12 hybrid amp ( tweaked too) sooooo happy 😃

Not trying to offend anyone. Any original good song performed by a talented artist can never be matched by a mimicking artist. It's like butchering a perfectly and artistically crafted song.

Hi. B&W 801Matrix vs Infinity Renaissance 90? Wich of them sounds better to you?
@audiodio
4 жыл бұрын
The base grade is 801 high. But given the used price, the Renaissance 90 is excellent. Both are hard to drive. The clear and powerful sound is the Renaissance, and the balanced sound with a weakness is 801. Both are good speakers.

I have the 801/2 ‘s and find the high treble often needs attenuation - unless you want the “ headphone “ like detail in the highest frequencies. Or have a dead room , maybe.
