B2B Energy Toolbox Tip No.55
Have you ever wondered what a Ton of Carbon looks like?
Have you ever wondered what a Ton of Carbon looks like? This is an interesting and very important question for organisations to ask themselves as the government leads us into Net Zero. More importantly, this information needs to be communicated to all staff.
I have worked with various organisations and recently I have been trying to find ways in which we can convert the word Tonne into something more realistic.
It always reminds me of the famous question asked at school, “what is the heaviest, a tonne of feathers or a Tonne of Lead”. (Please tell me you said they both weigh the same!)
We need to bring the concept of a Tonne of carbon to life in a way that everyone understands, and I believe once we start doing this, we can understand the impact we can have on reducing our carbon footprint.
I worked with a gym owner, and we identified that the best way to make people to understand what a Ton of Carbon would look like is as follows:
The tennis ball - these weigh 59 grammes each and therefore one ton of tennis balls = 16,949 tennis balls (I rounded it up to 17,000).
Once we understand this, we can then take our ‘Carbon Footprint’ and then convert it into our equivalent which then starts to make it relevant.
After various calculations, I like to the show daily, weekly, monthly, and annual figures. It really does start to make it real.
This is very easy to do 1 Tonne = 1000kg you can then divide the 1000kg via the item.
