John Brash was a actor in local television commercials in the 60's and 70's in Los Angeles. When he was asked to sing a jingle for a local restaurant, agent Boyce Beckman saw his talent and brought him in the studio. His first hit "Angelic Taste" in 1974, rose to number 19 on the disco charts. The singles sold like hotcakes and he became a sensation. Like many people at the time, cocaine and women became overwhelming vices to him.
In 1979, his bottoming out moment came when his on again, off again girlfriend Nancy Pepp relieved herself on the couch during a shared cocaine binge.
"I woke up on the floor, looked at a giant smear on my nice naugahyde couch and saw my girl just walking out of the shower. I said 'Bitch, did you wipe your ass on my couch?!' We yelled at each other for a bit, then we broke up for the last time. A few weeks later the song was made."
The song hit for three months at number 3, but at that time disco was basically dying so it only pulled a small amount of cash. John was lucky to keep his agent, and because of several investments after he got clean he was able to keep his house in Avalon.
