Please please please dont anyone take this guy seriously Yes, pitchers were probably pitching in the 80s when Ruth played. However, his baseball was still arguably harder to hit and certainly harder to get power off of. The balls in the 1920s werent replaced every 2-3 pitches. Instead, by the 9th inning, the ball was beaten up and covered in grime, comparable to hitting a softball, except a much smaller target. Further, you can hear stories about how the entire outfields stands back in the day would be completely white from the spectators shirts. Blue collared shirts werent invented yet so youd be trying to hit a white ball against a white backdrop. Finally, what exactly makes players today inherently superior? Yes, they have better equipment and training, but if thats no longer a factor, then what makes them better? When people try to put down past greats, it always comes off to me as someone who is trying to justify why they never got to play in the majors. "It wasnt that I am horrendous compared to even Double A players. Its because players today are just so amazing. I'd hit 90 homers in the 1920s". That energy is so toxic and weak.

Babe Ruth's eyesight was estimated at 20/08. His biographers claim he could read a license plate before others could tell what color it was. He had incredible hand eye coordination and a powerful build. In 1927 he hit more home runs by himself than any other entire team in the American League. He hit 60 home runs in a 154 game season at a time when baseball parks were cavernous by today's standards. He was a 20 game winner as a pitcher in a 154 game season. People who love to make fun of pitchers throwing in the 80’s back then always seem to be ignorant of the fact Babe Ruth’s bat was 40 oz.

Nah the bats players use now are way lighter so it’s really way easy to swing. Plus stadiums are much smaller than they were then so multiple home runs is probable, and he would probably have 35x more home runs than you’re saying. Adjusting to modern day velocity really would not be that hard. A 100 mph fastball takes about 0.4 second to reach the plate. An 85 mph fastball, which is the kind of velocity he was facing, takes 0.5 seconds. That’s barely a difference and any easy adjustment for a hitter as seasoned as Ruth. He would probably have a great eye too. Ruth would hit just fine in today’s game, bro literally showed up to games fully drunk and would hit it out. This guy had a ridiculous amount of power fulled by his big stride and people seriously underestimate that.

Yeah, older players in sports would usually never be able to compare to the older ones. For sports that don’t rely on new technology, then it doesn’t matter. However, sports that have technology as a main factor of getting a player skillful will be different.

I think he’d still have the power, it’s more likely a slugger then what he hit for average. He’d probably hit .240 and hit like 30. Not the gaudy numbers his had in his prime.

Not necessarily disagreeing but funny thing about 99% of all video and pics of Ruth you ever see are from his last few seasons or after he retired. He was much more trim and athletic for his time.

If he played today, he'd be like everyone else in staying in shape... He didn't though, he played in an ERA where the players were paid only slightly more than normal wages (normal as in non-players).. Not to mention, he was one of the best pitchers of the 1910's... yeah, using what he did today wouldn't work.. but as much as he loved beer, he's not a useless idiot

Hmm, looking at his record against Walter Johnson, one of the harder (if not the hardest) throwing pitcher of the era, he did pretty well. Have you ever hear that batters can always adjust to velocity? After some acclimation, I'm willing to say Ruth would probably do FAR better than what you stated. Most hitters of that era might have issues in today's game, but I don't think Babe Ruth would be one of them.

People need to understand you can’t just compare someone from todays era like Shohei Ohtani to Babe Ruth, it just doesn’t make sense. Babe was good for his time but if he played today, he wouldn’t stand a chance.

Because players evolve over time. You could take any player from a hundred years ago and say the same things. Babe was a great player at his time. He would be more fit and trained in today's baseball and would still be a great player.

I think that as baseball fans we shouldn’t compare eras in any way. Almost every era in baseball has served its place and we should not compare players that played almost 100 years apart. That’s like comparing a Lamborghini to the first car ever. It’s stupid.

You have to keep in mind at one point in time he swung a bat that was 54 or 56 ounces. Even if they are say ,’throwing it harder’ ,he can just go down to like a 38 oz bat and he hitting all their shit. Another thing. Baseball historians said the ball sounded different off his bat, there’s a KZitem short, that shows him doing a brief hitting presentation, he so called ,’connects’ on one, that makes it believeable he hit it 575ft. Babe Ruth may be the only player to hit the ball 3x his weight. Like (190lb x 3= 570ft)
@pazzoaf

This is where you can’t just transport the player using old equipment. Babe Ruth swung a 42 ounce bat in his younger years. For comparison, the 6’7” 285lb Aaron Judge swings a 33 ounce bat. Can’t tell me Ruth wouldn’t be timing up pitchers just fine if he was using modern equipment. (But yeah, the racism would definitely keep him down majority of the season.)
