As a ballet student, I STRONGLY encourage waiting until she's older. No matter how good or strong she is, her bones are not yet fully developed, and putting her in pointe ballet shoes too early could cause a lot of damage to her feet, and she may not be able to dance again. Curious question since you are a dance teacher. What happens if you have a child who is very small but also at the age range. Maybe a dancer who has had restricted growth or some issue with growth so is very small but is at ten or eleven? I am just curious how kids like that are handled. What does it take for a small child to safely dance en pointe? I love ballet but also support the common sense of protecting little kids from long term bone damage. A child not ready can risk arthritis and other painful foot issues in later life I’m sure, right? I know they have to be strong but also developed enough. Just curious what your criteria are as a teacher.

Her body is still developing, especially her feet. I would not put her in any pointe shoes till she was at least 13-14 years old. Her feet are still growing. My foot doctor said I had to wait for surgery for my flat feet until mid high school. Trust me you are damaging her feet, legs, etc. her body is still forming. She’s going to risk complications with her feet and I just don’t mean the normal problems with pointe shoes. Never put any child in pointe shoes till they are 13-14 years old. A year after you get your period, your body stops growing as in bones. Be very careful! This is rather scary.

Don’t ever stop! Just don’t rush into it! Good things come to those who wait. This video is completely unrealistic because her bones aren’t developed enough to go en pointe. This can seriously hurt her. These things take time. so take your time and Im sure I’ll see your name in the news one day

Before reading the comments I knew what all the comments would be :D I also think my ballet teacher should have trained me and fitted me properly at 15 years but she hated me so didn't care lol. Now at 40 I have a pair that fit. Don't know what teacher is authorising this though.

As a ballet dancer who has been dancing for over 7 years, I can confirm that she should not be dancing in pointe shoes. She is far too young to be wearing point shoes. It doesn’t matter if she’s well above average in dancing than the others. Her bones are still deloping. Tell me if I’m wrong but I think it’s 11+ that you should be wearing point shoes.

Harper doesn’t dance or compete in pointe shoes, she technically wouldn’t be allowed I’m pretty sure. I think she uses them just for fun and photoshoots because she’s strong enough for them. I’m pretty sure sometimes she’ll just go en pointe in a rehearsal. She wouldn’t be able to perform in them though

Don’t be. This girl in the video won’t be able to dance in the future because she will get serious medical issues in the long run. Dancing in point with undeveloped ankles is EXTREMELY dangerous.

I’m sorry but she’s wayyyy too young for pointe shoes. Children below the age of 10 (roughly it depends on the person) haven’t fully developed their feet yet. Things like high heels and pointe shoes being regularly worn can permanently damage their feet, which is why good dance teachers won’t let them start until about the age of 12 to make sure their feet are developed enough

In Russia at the Vaganova Academy students begin pointe as young as 8 or 9. The catch is they are already vetted as superior body types before being accepted to the academy. My teacher was from the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo. I began pointe at 10. My sister began at 8. I've danced all my life. I'm now 75 and my feet are fine. I still teach.

This girl doesn’t look old enough for pointe. As a dance student, I do know that going into pointe this early even with strong technique can greatly hurt and damage the bodies of young people because they still are growing. Please do not put people who are young in pointe shoes even with strong technique

from a girl who has been a pointe dancer from a very young age - this can RUIN the bones in her feet and toes
@LunaLightbringer

Back in the Stone Age when I was a ballet dancer, there were strict rules about age and weight before dancers were allowed to go en pointe, it was never before about 11 years old, as it was thought to affect the normal development of a child's feet and cause bunions etc to develop. So I find it amazing/a bit shocking to see such tiny young girls en pointe. Maybe pointe shoes are more modern and better designed now? In our pointe shoes we had a layer of wool felt in the bottom of the box with a pad of lambswool on top of that, to mold to the shape of our toes. It seems like more padding than the thin silicone toe-sock they use now. I wonder how different it feels from what I was used to :) What a sweet little angel

For people hating on how shes too young to use them... it doesent matter the age! What matters is if her bones are ready and she is in a good level! And it really seems like it! So stop hating without doing your research. It scares me how humanity gets worse every second 😔

Yeah....no. There's not a pediatrician whose board certified, a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics that would ever clear a 9 year old for pointe. Age DOES matter. For all the reasons that have been listed thousands of times in these comments. Unless she's older than she looks, 10 is the absolute minimum.

Hoping this is specifically for a photoshoot, and not her actually fitted into shoes at this age. Unless she looks significantly younger than she really is, her body is still growing so much that pointe could damage her bone structure. She may have fantastically strong feet and ankles, but your bones need to be more developed to really go en pointe. She also would likely grow out of the shoes well before they were dead, so it would be very expensive to keep replacing the pointe shoes as her feet continue to grow. For anyone that wasn't aware, you DO NOT EVER, FOR ANY REASON, fit the pointe shoes with "room to grow". You fit the shoe to the foot as it is at the time of the fitting. Pointe shoes aren't cheap. Yes, she looks like she's got good technique, but again, if it's not just for a photoshoot, perfect technique can't fix an underdeveloped dancer going en pointe so young
