That scene when JC walks into that board meeting and turns down a VERY lucrative offer just speaks volumes of her integrity , my motto-- " A woman's place is everywhere ! " , this simple film really touches me , when Elizabeth says " Mama" with the delicate piano in the background , cant help but lose it , one of the best endings I have enjoyed , watching her with her daughter sitting by the open window and gently picking a flower from the flower bed , so very peaceful ...

@@susanne25262 22 years ago my wife gave birth to twins and at first it was overwhelming because she had drop out of medical school and I was the main breadwinner and a cop's salary didn't go very far but then my mom moved in to help us out with raising them and my wife was able to go back to school now I'm a lieutenant in my department and my wife is a successful surgeon and our girls are in college following in their mom's footsteps My point is that everything that involves risks and sacrifice is always difficult at first but the rewards are often beautiful I wouldn't trade what we have for the world

This movie is wonderful. When JC looks at the board and says “The world is going to survive the rat race with one less rat” and looks directly at Ken, I thought “Amen to that!!!”. And when she gets home and walks in on Elizabeth and Elizabeth says “Mama” I thought that all was right with the world in JC’s eyes. The movie is warm and tender and strikes just the right stuff to make it just fine. 😊😊😊😊

I miss the 80s music and movies. This is a wonderful and charming movie. I know this is a cliche, but they don't make 'em like this anymore! .Everything is so dark, violent and sexually charged now. Where is the romance???

I love these 80's movies. They don't make them like they used to. I'm an 80's kid and were the best years of my life. Hell, I even love the 80's traditional saxophone on the soundtracks to some of these great films. lol Glad others love and miss the good old days. Love this movie! : )

They tried making a sitcom out of it, shortly after this movie. It had the same twins who played Elizabeth in the movie and it had the some of the same people who played her business colleagues including Fritz. But the series didn't really take off and got cancelled by mid-first season.

I remember the big impact this movie made when it was released in 1987. It was in the 80's when women were really starting to get a foothold in having huge careers. It hit on the fact that ambitious career women like J.C. in the movie were told they couldn't have it all and had to choose between having a high powered career or a family. Women applauded the fact that the movie didn't gloss over the reality women faced in balancing home and the workplace. It really made women cheer that in the end J.C. ended up getting everything on her own terms.

JC isn't holding anything against them but she's just not fast paced businesswoman she used to be. She still loves to work but she also enjoys having a social life now. She loves being a mother and she's seeing a man who also enjoys working and having a social life. If she were to accept this offer, she'd go back to her hectic fast-paced life and she just doesn't think she can do that. Besides, she's right, if the Food Chain can put her baby food on every supermarket shelf in America, she can too.

one of my friends works for a bank and she had to return to work 6 weeks after the birth. her baby stays with another woman for most of the day (which she pays for of course) - she had to wean the baby early on coz she can't nurse during work hours. if I get married and have kids, I hope my husband earns enough to let me stay at home as long as our kid is a baby. when it's old enough for kindergarden, I'll gladly rejoin the workforce. ;) but I know I just couldn't hand over my baby to anyone.
