My daughter got her name because we knew we wanted a nature name but my husband was also dead set on a "badass" name because he thought it would help her grow to be a strong person. The second I suggested River he was so set on it he didn't even want to consider anything else. 2 of our favorite TV shows have female characters named River that are both strong, intelligent, and total badasses so he thought it was a sign. Now she's 5 and LOVES her name so I guess we picked well.

Ellory and Finley are primarily girls name where I am from so it's interesting to see them considered for a boy. I personally love more gender neutral names as I was given a very feminine nickname as a kid and hated it as I'm not very feminine and so I ended up choosing another of the possible nicknames for my full name as an adult. It's funny how a nickname can make or break a name. There were several names my husband and I crossed off our list because we knew they would get shortened to something we didn't care for and didn't want to fight that battle.

Your little man is adorable. You're looking like motherhood suits you more than pregnancy did. (And regarding a recent post I can totally relate to missing the bump, I hated my last pregnancy, while I wouldn't mind a 4th kid another pregnancy is just not happening.) My kids are all named after superheroes (or the secret identities more accurately, they're named like Peter, not Spider-Man). I wanted names that are "common" but not "popular" if that makes sense. Like anyone can look at them and pronounce them or hear them and spell them but also there wouldn't be three other kids with the same name in their class. They're older names, so you hear them and you picture someone in their 60's to 90's not a 7yo. My eldest frequently hears "oh that's my nan's name".

Pregnant currently, and trying to finalize my short list for 2nd baby (who will be here probably next month, but if she did show up early I'd just have to run through my long list more diligently. Thankfully being Canadian I'd have a whole month after she was born to sort out her name lol) Nature names are my jam, and fortunately my SO also likes them, so our first we just picked a name that we kept coming back to. It's harder the second time, because we want it to not clash with our toddler's name, but also not be too similar.

I was almost Louise when I was born. My mum didn’t like the name outside her pregnancy brain but got obsessed with it. Turned out all of the girl babies born around the same time as me on the ward were being called Louise as a first or middle name so my mum went back to the drawing board. Ironically I’ve not met that many Louises but plenty of Sophies. I wasn’t escaping the L initial as my middle name is Lindsay - only met two Lindsays (at least the right spelling 😂😉)

We have Gabriel, Jackson, Charlotte and Adrian in our blended family, and I guess technically today we start trying for our final addition as our only baby together. If we have a boy I like the names Finley, Duncan and Rowan, then Matthew for a middle name after my husband's dad who passed a few years ago this month, if we have a girl as they're hoping for, I like the names Fiona, Catriona and McKenna and not sure on a middle name, but I'm also not sure who's surname we would use. My maiden name is Hunter and would go best with my choices, and also so easy to learn, say and spell, but also because we are in the process of changing my younger bio kids surnames from my ex husband to my maiden name. I almost forgot, Evelyn for a girl but my mum hates it and my daughter has always wanted me to change her name to Evelyn or Lillian for some reason she doesn't like Charlotte now.

I'm awaiting my first child (a girl) and the criteria we took when choosing names was: - at least one name must end with an -a (I'm Polish and majority feminine Polish names end with -a) - both names must be easy to pronounce and write wherever she goes, so no special characters or characters that are pronounced differently in different countries (my and my husband come from 2 different countries and we live in a third country, so we didn't want to cause too much trouble for her with administration or having her name mispronounced constantly) - names should not allow to pinpoint to a specific country at the first glance (we wouldn't want her to experience issues in the future e.g. finding a job due to racism) - Turkish name as a second name (for my husband's family) In the end we have landed on Gaia Ipek. The first one I heard on a train some time before I got pregnant and I totally fell in love with it - short, easy to write but unique, and depending on the descend it means either the Earth goddess (Greek) or joy (Latin). The second one means silk in Turkish. Other names we consider as backup in case we dont think the chosen name suits her are - Ellie - Livia - Olivia - Anya - Arya For second name we considered Selin as well, but apparently there is already one girl with this name in my husband's family so we decided not to use it

Thomas, Peter, Elijah and Ezra are biblical too! My favourite names are biblical, as there are plenty of rare ones that no-one has heard of before. Those in the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament) have such a special meaning, because of how precious the Hebrew language is. It is believed that there is something innately divine within the very characters, which is why we don't know God's real name, because to know someone's name is to have power over them. My brother and I both have Hebraic names... to know they can be spelled in such a beautiful way, with a ton of history behind them, is amazing. Xx P.S.) I go by a different name online and I am theology student - hence the slight theological tangent.

Onto baby number 2 and I get to pick the first name this time. Feeling the pressure…
