Marc Warnke, "The Goat Guy" shares the danger of hoof rot and baby goats. What's the difference between gunky hooves and actual hoof rot?? Hoof rot stinks! It smells like it is rotting. The best way to illuminate hoof rot is to trim the hooves. Trim them, take away the space along the edges where the poop gets shoved up in. From the soft part to the hoof wall, and then treat with iodine, it is antibacterial. If hoof rot happens, take action... watch the hooves carefully, keep it trimmed and clean. Do the best you can, if it gets bad, isolate them. They need to be in a dry environment, it is where staying wet long-term creates the hoof rot.
