Goldie will continue to sit on eggs until she is left to raise the chicks. She will let the chicks set under her for warmth. Once they are old enough to be away from mom (once they get their feathers) she will then go about her business being a chicken.

Exactly what I said. She just needs to be left alone to raise her chicks. Chickens aren't like other animals you take their babies and they will just sit on other eggs they find.

@@krissiepartington4471 other hens keep laying in Goldie’s nest. Each egg takes about 21 days to hatch. That means egg #1 will hatch while egg #2-21 will not hatch. Think of it in terms of humans. The egg that is incubated for 9 months has the best chance to survive. Any human egg that is incubated for, let's say, 1/2 that 9 months doesn't have as much of a chance as a full-term egg. When Goldie’s egg #1 hatches, none of the other eggs will have been incubated long enough to fully develop. The embryos in those eggs die.
@millieharmon3616

Yes let her keep her chick's, mark eggs and take out the ones not marked every day so her hatching will be in a day leave the chick's she'll keep them warm while she hatches the rest . Once they've hatch she'll take them off the nest . She wants to be a momma hen and by taking the chick's away she can't forfill her role as a mother
@krissiepartington4471
3 жыл бұрын
@@joanlester340 this is where the problem lies people seeing it from a human point of view. Goldie will continue to be broody as long as her chicks are taken away. Broodys are hardwired to raise their chicks. They could mark the eggs which is a good thing for other reasons to and any unmarked can be taken away once the chicks have hatched don't handle them and let her raise them she will know when they are ready to go because she teach them everything they need to know. I've raised chickens both through hatching the eggs in an incubator and from a broody hen and the ones my broody hatched and raised turned out healthier and once grown were the friendliest.
@alinagilbert9991
3 жыл бұрын
I don't want to sound rude but please don't repeat the mistakes you did with her last clutch of eggs. All the eggs need to be placed under her at the same time so that they are all due to hatch at the same time. She will only sit on her eggs for a maximum of roughly 48 hours after the first chick is born so any eggs not due to hatch for another 3 or 4 days will be lost. 😢 1. Mark her current eggs with an X 2. Remove any new eggs daily 3. Candle the eggs at about day 7 & remove any infertile ones 4. Candle again at about day 20 & remove any that have not survived. (there are plenty of pics on Google that show what the fertile egg should look like) 5. Leave the chicks (or even just 1 chick) for her to raise. This will stop her going broody again. Good luck Goldie & Jami, you got this.

I really hope Jami can be vulnerable enough to take on board your advice. This is all common sense. Also, their argument about taking the chicks off their mother to make them tame falls flat. The chicks in the stable are running away and not tame at all! I’ve tamed chickens who I’ve left with my hens as they got older and guess what(?), zero issues with them being tame!!

The girls have tail feathers, and I'd you stretch their wings out the feathers are different lengths ie short long, short, long etc. The boys don't have tail feathers , these come in later and they have a comb. The wing feathers are all one length. Hope this helps you. Goldie is the designated mama hen😃

You need to get rid of the new eggs because when the older or first laid eggs hatch, the others will die because she will not finished incubating the ones that didn’t hatch and she will keep doing that till you put her in a crate for 3 to 5 days so she cools down. You need to mark the good eggs with a pencil or non toxic markers and go thru them everyday and take the ones that are new away.

Hi Jaime, Goldie is beautiful and a great broody chick. She will keep sitting until she has some babies to raise. The great thing about her doing this is you can put any type of egg under her and she will hatch it out. Just incase you wanted other types of birds like peacocks. She would sit on all of them. It's great that you have her because a lot of Hens won't do it. They find the broody hen and she will lay her eggs right on top or very near so the broody hen will take over. This is normal. I wish you all would place a chicken box on the wall where she is sitting right now. The boxes are great for making them feel more secure. It will keep the eggs together and also it helps to keep temperature longer when she gets up, then out in the open. Good luck. Cog Hill Farms is a great channel to watch when it comes to chickens or any type of fowl.

I think, you might be looking at a couple of name changes on the chicks. I am by no means an expert, but did some digging recently unrelated to this video. My understanding is that at this age, females have lighter (less red colored) combs that grow straight up and light colored wattles (cheeks). Males are larger and redder (and might be curving forward). Also check for spurs on their feet. Males have them and (in most cases) females don’t.
