Baby Yoda appeals to me because he reminds me of my own son, who's mostly Scottish on my side and Karelian Finn on his father's side. The strange thing about Finns is that their language and culture resembles that of Native Americans more than it does those of the rest of Europe, which suggests that Finns are basically Natives that got lost trying to find the Bering Land Strait and ended up in Scandinavia. When you get right down to the bare bones of things, human beings all over the world are more alike than they are different!

Sami are the only European indigenous peoples remaining, sometimes referred to as Lapps (sic), who migrate across top of Finland, Sweden, Norway with the reindeer (caribou). I really feel the commonalities between the music, dance, dwellings, and culture of Sami and Native First Nations Americans, and its what draws me to Native First Nations American content as i feel connected, even though we are from different continents. Sami are directly related to Karelians via ancient DNA so there is some evidence to support your argument. It certainly makes sense to me 😃 I hope your son brings you much joy, he sounds to have good heritage. A lot of our family is in Scotland too.

I'm Nimiipuu and have been a major fan of Mandalorian's (Mando'ade) since Boba in the original trilogy and just want to drop an extra bomb(s) for us all to claim not only Baby Yoda but the Mandos too. Mandos follow a very sacred way of life that can be simply defined as the Six Actions (the Resol'nare). Here is a quote from one Mandalorian about the Six Actions: "I adhere to the Resol'nare. The core of what it means to be Mandalorian. A sacred law giving us direction and purpose. Education and armor, self-defense, our tribe, our language, our leader-all help us survive. We must educate our children as Mandalorians, obey the commands of Mandalore, speak Mando'a and defend our clans." During the scene where the Heavy Mando (Paz Vizla) gets into a fight with Din in front of the clan and their leader (Alor) is less about him being a jerk but more to do with their sacred metal (beskar) being harvested and used improperly by non-Mandalorian people. Sounds familiar doesn't it? Especially since Mando fans are theorizing that this is only a few years after Mandalore frees itself from slavery by the Empire where all their traditions were made illegal, their armor (handed down hundreds of years through families) is taken from their and world (lands) stolen. There's more connections too like traditional adoption rights, warrior spirit on the field of battle, leadership etc. But I won't write a whole book and bore you XD

Okay gonna just put it out there. I am white. But I love these episodes. Loving Baby Yoda. So cute!!! I remember visiting South Dakota in the 7th grade and all the native radio stations. I actually begged my Dad to let me listen but didn't happen. Sigh. I don't know if you know, but there is an awesome tech school in Minnesota that is on the rez. We visited there and it was an amazing time. They brought in a drum group and gave everyone gifts of wild rice. I loved how they shared their culture with us there. Forgive me if this is a dumb question, but pow wows seem like a great ambassador for sharing the native culture but I am never quite sure if showing up is an intrusion or welcome. Would a white person be welcome at a pow wow?

There are some very ugly examples of entitled white folks at pow wows. Also at churches, in stores (when abroad), etc. once had such a woman as my roomy in the hospital. The way she treated nurses of African heritage was horrifying. Such as “hey you, girl, get over here!” They moved me, thank goodness. If you are respectful and not intrusive I don’t think anyone would mind.To me attending another cultures’ festivities is a privilege.

Oh yea. This episode is my favorite. After watching it a third time, I wanted to tell you about my Grandfather. His name is John WhiteCloud. He was an actor, most notable and recognized is Poltergeist II. He is the Religious Man the young native visits on the mesa in the beginning. Those words he speaks address what our Elders teach us in Laguna, as he was an important man within our Tribe. Over the years, he'd tell me about his time as an actor. And in those movies from the 70s and earlier, the "Natives" were actually Spaniards from Spain or Italians. Indigenous People in movies is a new thing almost. And it's men like my Grandfather and others who paved the way for us to be represented right. It feels my heart with hope knowing that more Indigenous People are getting into acting, screenwriting, directing, etc. And now you guys are apart of that community. Keep the videos coming cause my Non-Indigenous friends love watching them with me. And yea, he even worked with Steven Segal (probably spelled his name wrong but meh) he was every bit a diva I was told.

This is so crazy for me. I grew up with star wars movies and most of my toys were star wars. I went to high school in C.G. Arizona where the only group of people I really understood, could relate to and were "for real" were the Native Americans. I respected them. They were good to me and I was honored when they invited me to be part of their group. Now 25 years later I still believe in the rain dance, feather magic, and prophecy rock. I haven't seen or talk to my friends from the rez since I graduated and I miss pow wowing with them. Upon following the NDAPL story I stumbled upon some new kind of music that kicks ass with clever lyrics I totally get. Like a Tribe Called Red, Prolific, Supaman, and SNRK. I said to myself "it's about time". Nobody I know understands it, likes it, or get why I'm so into it. There's never anyone good running for President that's why I always vote for Yoda. I havent seen the Mandelorian yet but I saw my first baby Yoda in the store last week when I was looking for a birthday gift for my 2 year old grandson whose middle name by the way is Moctezuma. I really wanted to get it but it was expensive. Now I'm thinking I should go back and get it! I'm suprised I never made the connection between Yoda and Native Americans but it makes perfect sense. A I loved this show it sure was "somethin else".

The movie role of the bounty hunter guy was sort of 'taken over' by some native/Maori guy from New Zealand. I'm not 100% and always felt I wouldn't be welcome but always wanted to learn and be apart of my heritage. Looking back I should have followed my internal compass because now it brings me sadness. Sadness that I might have missed out on making my soul whole. I'm half Ute but was taken and hidden away from my Dad and his family as a baby.
