The irony here is that 10 years ago all the metal purists (aka metal snobs) were claiming that they were just a gimmick group and that they wouldn't last another year. But here we are 10 years later and Babymetal is still going strong. They've literally outlived half the groups that were popular when they debuted.

Excellent first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Galaxy. Well done on picking a live performance - live BABYMETAL is best BABYMETAL. 'Karate' is about fighting through adversity, picking yourself up when life knocks you down, battling your inner demons and helping each other through hard times ... all philosophies they follow. They chose karate to illustrate it as it is a Japanese martial art, so it reflects their culture, and it is predominantly forward moving. They have about 50 songs now and they include songs in virtually every metal genre (power, speed, death, black, folk, prog, djent, thrash, nu-metal etc) but they will also mix many other musical styles and genres in with the metal (ska, reggae, Bollywood, Enka, Latino, EDM, rap, hip hop, Jpop and more) ... usually when you least expect it. As you already know, they formed in 2010. Su-metal was 12, her two young friends Yuimetal and Moametal were 11. They were one of a handful of sub-units of a JPop Idol group called Sakura Gakuin which had a school theme and was for girls with the Amuse talent agency aged 10 to 15 aimed at developing their talents while coaching them on all aspects of entertainment with a view to their progressing their careers in whatever aspect they enjoyed most or were best at. Of the sub-units BABYMETAL was expected to be a short lived and failed experiment and the least commercially viable and least successful, so they were provided no extra budget, but they were a passion project of their producer (a life long metalhead) which he formed and developed around Su-metal's vocal talents and stage presence. Against every expectation BABYMETAL was the group that took off, gaining their own audience nobody knew would exist and eventually, when Su was 15 and due to graduate from Sakura Gakuin, separating to become an independent band in their own right. That happened in 2013. 11 years in and they are internationally the most successful Japanese band of all time. There are bigger and better known bands in Japan of course, but they have broken all sorts of records outside of Japan and gained a world wide fan base. Yui and Moa provide backing vocals, harmonies, lead chants and basically make sure the whole crowd ... not just the first 10 rows, I do mean the whole crowd right up to the back rows in the balconies at huge arenas, are joining in and being part of the show. Officially their role was described as "scream and dance", but it is key to what makes BABYMETAL unique and one of the absolute best live acts on the planet (and they have international awards proving that is not just my opinion). Su-metal had 4 solo songs on the first two albums, Yui and Moa also had 4 songs they would perform as a duo (known as Black BABYMETAL) without Su while she got her chance for a break. Mostly it will be all three of them - Su with the lead vocals, Yui and Moa supporting her and leading the audience in what the Japanese call "ai no te" - so when they jump the audience jumps, when they sing their lines those are what the audience sing along with. Sadly Yui was taken ill towards the end of 2017, she missed the 2018 tour and eventually announced she would be leaving the band in October 2018. Through 2019 to 2021 Su and Moa, who chose to continue as a duo, were supported by 3 girls (the Avengers Riho, Kano and Momoko) who took turns dancing, but not singing, in the third spot. Momoko played the Budokan shows in 2021, so it was her you saw with Su and Moa in this video. When they first started in 2010, and for the next two or three years they would sing and dance with the instrumentals pre-recorded on a backing track. When they started doing their own small shows guys in skeleton suits (known as Babybones) would mime the instruments. When it was decided they would be separating from Sakura Gakuin a little more budget was made available and a live band - the Kami Band, some of Japan's very best session musicians - was gradually phased in playing at a couple of festivals and the encores in a few shows from October 2012. In March 2014 BABYMETAL released their first album and played two big shows at the Budokan in Tokyo and the Kami Band became their full time support for all live shows from then on. They all have their own bands and projects so there will be clashes of dates, so the Kami Band has had many members, but the hard core of about 6 has been constant. You will see these people in most videos - Mikio Fujioka (RIP Jan 2018), Takayoshi Ohmura, Leda Cygnus and ISAO on guitars, BOH on his 6 string bass and Hideki Aoyama on drums. In 2019 for the lengthy US tour there were probably a lot of date clashes and visa issues, so for that and the 2020 UK and Europe tour the Kami Band of the West (American musicians) supported BABYMETAL. The Legend of 1997 live performance of 'Headbanger' would be a good one for your next reaction ... it is an earlier performance and they were younger, but you will see they have always had the quality and talent. Su was born in 1997 so that concert was her 16th birthday celebration in December 2013, Yui and Moa were both 14.

this band is old enough. They formed 2010 and still active. So girls was 11-13 yo at begining, and now they are 24+ :) So u can find childish song and more serious. Songs like "Doki Doki Morning" or "iine" are among the first when girls were 11 years old. They weren't as famous back then as they are now. So you should not take such songs as their main repertoire. They were just finding their style back then. But listening to such songs is cool to understand how it all began.

Great reaction! Karate is not the most complex of songs, but I find it fascinating how well it manages to be both a great Metal song and an equally great Pop song. That‘s one of the areas BABYMETAL excel in. You can pick ten songs at random and probably get at least nine totally different sounds with eight different musical genres mixed into the Metal. It always works very well, and as you have seen, there are other facets to their live shows that not every band has to offer. Before I discovered them, I had no idea that Metal needed more choreographed dancing. „Headbanger“ is always a good second stop, in my opinion: kzitem.info/news/bejne/snuptZWDm4B3qqw

Welcome to the Foxhole 🦊🤘 Budokan 2021 marks their 10 years anniversary celebration and seal the Metal Resistance chapter along with another seal for the group sadly. A very long time road of resistance (yeah i said that on purpose) and many more battles, but they manage to get through all of it, and this song is one of those strong weapons they had to fight and conquer every metal heart that don't believe in them, Road Of Resistance is another one, but you will find there are a lot of more, over 50 songs, for you to enjoy and keep digging their journey, your journey. Like our japanese friend Minami Hideki said on another comment, Budokan is just a name for general martial arts place, there are other Budokan throughout Japan but this one in Tokyo is the most important and is big, this is the place any artist wants to reach when you're over the top, and they did it already in 2014 when they were even younger. Sadly this 2021 live concerts is a half capacity due to covid restrictions and safety measures and crowd wasn't allowed to mosh'sh, crowd surfing or shout without face mask, instead they can stomp their feet, clap their hands or doing a human wave, at least they can do something to participate in this epic and memorable date event. I like you started here and with this song, now you can rewind and watch the beginning in 2010 or years after 2010 when the original trio was around, one of the girls you saw here (the one you saw on the left side mostly) is called an "avenger", and she wasn't part of the original trio, but she's very talented as well, more of this avenger and story you can find at "A BabyMetal Guide" by CrypticMisery channel. So before 2018 you will find clips and the official MV with our three heroines, SuMetal on leading vocals, and MoaMetal (the one on the right) and YuiMetal on scream and dance. So brace yourself, your journey is about to begin. Hope to see you soon with more BabyMetal 🦊🤘

Actually, they performed 4 times in Glasgow, Cardiff, Manchester and London during their 2020 European tour. You are receiving tons of information about BM from many fans in various countries. Their activities have been worldwide since 2014. In the latest world tours from June 2019 through March 2020 (prior to COVID), they performed live 20 times in USA (in 18 states), 19 in EU/UK/Russia (11 countries) and 1 in Taiwan in addition to 15 in Japan. Last year 2021, they carefully restarted their activities and completed 10 serial concerts here in Tokyo taking very strict countermeasures against infection. I witnessed their shows at the venue last year ヽ(^o^)丿. This song was performed in every show. I personally like their Karate performance at UK Download Festival 2016. Please explore BABYMETAL more!

We are The One. We are the fans of BABYMETAL. Whenever possible, stay • away • from • compilation • videos. Some of them aren't bad, but you really need to see a single performance to get the full impact. It will - in some cases - limit you to using link-n-sync or obstructed versions of the videos (you can watch the unobstructed videos for the reaction and then cut in the obstructed version in post). BABYMETAL are one of THE MOST intensely copyrighted bands on the youtube. You think Metallica is bad, say hello to Amuse (and their license managers). Anyway, welcome to The Fox Hole (a play on going down the rabbit hole because of the fictional LORE that makes up BABYMETAL's history). There are many recommendations for Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! from Legend 1997. It's not a bad choice for a second song. It's not one of MY favorite videos, but it's not bad. Band info in this video: Lead singer (ponytail, hand mic): Su-metal | Suzuka Nakamoto -- Su, Queen Su, Goddess Su Scream and Dance (Twin Tails, head mic): Moametal | Moa Kikuchi -- The Angel of Love Avenger (dancer, no mic): Momoko Okazaki There is a third performer with a mic that is not in this video, she left the group in 2018. She is: Scream and Dance (Twin Tails, head mic): Yuimetal | Yui Mizuno -- The Angel of Dance. She will be in any shows performed before NOV 2017. Momoko is performing in Yui's "slot" in the dance formation, but she is not replacing Yui. Musicians (The Kami [kah-mee] Band): God of Guitar: Takayoshi Ohmura God of Guitar: ISAO God of (6-string) Bass: BOH God of Drums: Hideki Aoyama this is the "classic" Japanese band line-up. They are called The Kamis of the East. There is another Kami band -- The Kamis of the West -- that play almost all of the US/EU shows now. Having dumped a lot of terminology on you, let's make your life even more complicated: Black Babymetal (note the capitalization here). Blach Babymetal is Moa & Yui performing without Su. There are four Black Babymetal songs: GJ!, Sis.Anger, Yon no Uta (Song 4, Four no Uta), and Onedari Daisakusen. If you are tempted to view a Black Babymetal song, DO NOT start with the versions from "Legend S: Baptism XX". You watch Legend S after viewing earlier versions. Just trust me on this. There's a lot to unpack in all of that, but there WILL be tests. If you don't know what you're talking about, the fans WILL call you out. So, now we come to MY recommendation for a next BABYMETAL song. I'm going to go with THE MOST popular song amongst the fans: Megitsune -- Live at Budokan 2021: kzitem.info/news/bejne/jn-Nnm1vgZV5noY [meh-GIT-sue-nay] And one of the top 10 every time a poll is conducted: Syncopation -- Live Sun & Moon 2019: kzitem.info/news/bejne/unek33iGenmqdXo And probably one of THE BEST videos by BABYMETAL, and a master class in crowd control: Road of Resistance -- Live in Japan (Official): kzitem.info/news/bejne/24p7v4l8oH6nmI4

Welcome to the Babymetal fox hole. BM are metal, but they are so much more because of their stage show, musical diversity and origins in Japanese idol sub-culture. BM's theatricality is one of the things that I love most about them as well as the symbiotic relationship between the band and their fans. This is a recent show so you don't get to see one of the original members, Yui Mizuno, and the group with her arguably put on the best performances. To see some of the fun early stuff with Yui have a look at "Headbanger legend 1997". There is so much more, but take it slowly because BM will blow your mind. Karate is about fighting against adversaries both real and imagined and never giving up. It's about inner strength and the value of friendship...particularly in the dance. It's a good example of how well BM can manipulate your emotions. It starts off heavy and confrontational and by the end the dance and the tone of the music has become intimate. One reason for BM's international success is their ability to communicate with an audience through the dance and music and Karate is a great example of that.

Welcome to the Fox Hole. I can tell you right now that you're gonna enjoy this journey of discovering Babymetal for the first time. Throughout their albums I can honestly say that you have to look extremely hard to find any two songs that sounds remotely the same. Every single one of them is a new experience because they've explored so many genres and cultures in their music. I just have a single tip for you: For the most part the live performances are the way to experience them. It's half of what makes them so great, because they put so much effort and dedication into what they do, and oh boy do they always put on an amazing show/performance. Even for their small gigs they give it their all. 🤘🦊🤘

“Wow” is the correct response to BABYMETAL. The sweetest most talented and most badass young women in rock. Su is easily one of the best voices in rock……They are loved by their fans…..easy to see why. If you like this, try “Kagerou” (with kami band intro). If you want to see them in full “kawaii-metal” (cute-metal) mode look for “Catch Me if You Can” “Megitsune”, “Yava” or “Awadama Fever”. Tip: always go for “live” performances it is where they truly excel.

The Budokan 2021 is good with new concept, but watching "karate" without interaction to audience is something weird 😅

Good reaction. Babymetal live is always the best Babymetal :) Trust me, whilst the 10 Budokan shows were impressive, they’ve done way more impressive shows in the past. The Tokyo Dome shows come to mind, where they filled that arena with 55.000 fans on two consecutive days (yes, 110.000 in total) with a stage that was so impressive, I can’t even describe. You might want to check out some of their earlier sings, like “Headbanger” from the Legend 1997 show (the 1997 is a reference to Su-Metal’s year of birth).
