This is the clearest and most thorough tutorial on back basting I've seen on YT--thank you! I've got my pattern outlined on my fabric and will try it this morning!

Been wanting to learn this technique. Thanks for your video. I've found these small applique scissors...they have a "duck bill" on one blade and are perfect for cutting around applique piece so you don't cut into the background.

Thank you so much for your video. I will be referring to again and again as I start my first project. I saw a woman at a retreat recently doing her appliqué like this and I was intrigued. She showed me what she was doing (very similar to what you are doing) and I thought I definitely want to try that. Unfortunately, she lives a few states away. Your video has given me the confidence to try this on my own. ~ Carol S.

Thank you so much it was very easy to follow and I will try it as I live in the tropical rainforest and not able to use starch or glue due to mould. Cheers Glenda Australia .

I am not blaming you, at all....but who ever thought about creating this convoluted difficult way for turn under applique needs their head checked. Create your appliques pieces, place where you want them, Add a dab or two of washable school glue, let dry and then turn under the sides. Watching this method, hurt my brain!

Thank you for sharing, I love it. This seems familiar to me, is it possible that this method of applique, "back-basting" is the same thing as what used to be called "cutwork" applique in the olden days?

Back basting seems like a step thats not needed for needle turn applique...don't see the purpose of it ?!? One pin in the center of the leaf will hold it in place; so you can needle turn. Plus tracing pattern directly on the fabric-you use the trace line to needle turn stitch.

This is a very clear video of this technique. However, this is a very tedious technique. I think I will continue with water soluble interfacing, trace the piece, stitch interfacing to fabric, trim, slice interfacing, and turn. Then stitch down to base fabric. When I wash the piece, interfacing will disappear. Much faster, just as neat, and no stitches to rip out.

I do needle turn applique but I struggle with the very thin pieces. Watching your video has shown me that I can do them using back basting technique. Yours is one of the best and clearest /well explained videos of this yet. Thanks 💃
