If you like the Blacktop Precision, then check out Fender's new Player Plus Meteora bass. It's basically a Blacktop Precision but with a togglable active EQ in a Meteora-style body. I have one, and I think it sounds exactly the same as the Blacktop Precision! The only downside to it is that, unlike the Blacktop, it doesn't have a passive tone control; however, you can get a similar effect if you use the 3-band EQ in active mode, or you could use a pedal of some kind if you want a tone-rolled-off sound in passive mode. As an owner of a Meteora bass, I can highly recommend it to you, especially since it's essentially the new incarnation of the Blacktop Precision you like so much!

The Fender Aerodyne Jazz bass is awesome. It's a lot of bang for the buck? Mine is in chocolate burst, the Babicz bridge is awesome , I like the Aerodyne voiced pickups & the tuners are from Gotoh ( even though there's no branding on them, it was confirmed by the store I purchased it at as well as a couple of other videos I saw which is not surprising being that Fender Japan is know for using Gotoh tuners and parts on their guitars .

Regardless of their appealing aesthetics, they are so comfortable to play (whilst standing on stage). Lightweight, even more so in conjunction with a wide strap... and the sculpted top really puts the strings out in front (like a Spector or Thumb bass). I haven't tried these new iterations, but I'm looking forward to it. I just wish they had kept the P/J configuration, smoked chrome hardware and absence of fret dots. Especially for the one Patrick is playing. Had they, I would've already bought a couple. MIJ Fenders are unrivalled.

I have 2 identical 2020 Aerodynes (export models). I had one wrapped in transparent film at a local auto shop. They've both seen equal amounts of gigs (abuse) and the one that isn't wrapped definitely has numerous, visible battle scars: Small dents and scratches on both the body & headstock. The wrapped one still looks pristine. Granted the wrap material has a few minor scrapes, but they definitely didn't go through and into the finish.

Fender Japan is absolutely killing it right now. Perfect spec, options, and fantastic build, finishing, and setup. I just unpack them and go. I gave slight neck adjustments to taste on the Aerodyne and Elemental, but that's not an error or defect, just a preference thing.

I mean if it's the right weight and durable, I don't see the issue with basswood. G&L uses that on some of their $2k+ basses. And this one is painted so it's not like we're missing out on pretty woodgrain.

A few things make this inferior to the classic Aerodynes, imo: 1) No PJ configuration. I actually primarily use the P pickup on mine, but I like the versatility offered by the PJ setup. 2) 12" radius as opposed to 7.5". One of the biggest reasons I love my Aerodyne is the ultra-comfortable neck. I've played one of the new Aerodynes, and while the neck is still comfortable, I prefer the smaller radius. 3) If they're going to introduce new colors, I wish they'd just give us some of the colors of the non-export Japanese models. The dolphin gray in this video is a classic Aerodyne non-export color, and looks nice. But the blue and green options are hideous, imo. I also don't like any of the new Player Plus colors. I like a bright colorful bass, but the new colors just look cheap and tacky. Way too '80s influenced or something. 4) The $1400 price tag for no real improvements is pretty weak. You can get a used classic Aerodyne for $600. Heck, you can even get one of the rare non-import models shipped to you from Japan for about $800.
