Man, you sure catch a lot of tagged sturgeons. They are crazy looking. Except for the bugs, looked like an awesome multi species day

I’ve been surprised with the tags myself. This fish as the DNR put it was a kinda rare catch. The fish was tagged 4 years ago as an immature fish. Meaning they had no idea the sex. What surprised me was it grew over 3 inches and gained 1/2 pound. They said if anyone else catches it the growth is going to be minimal. The bugs are going to be bad all year. The winter was only 3-4 weeks. So the bugs didn’t get killed off. Always appreciate you watching and commenting Chris. Take care.

Fishless Another good day on the river minus the bugs and the poke! You are gonna set the record for catching tagged sturgeon 👊 How do you hook night crawlers? Do you hook them multiple times in a wad, thread them , or once and let them dangle ?

Thanks Bill. It depends on hook size. Small hooks I tear them in pieces. Large hooks I thread half the worm on and leave the rest dangle. For very large hooks I’ll use up to 3 crawlers. I found leaving half the worm free seems to draw more fish. I appreciate you watching Sir.

I hate bugs. They can ruin a good day fast. The catfish pokes suck. It’s like they have a poison on their barb. Nice video and that area looks great.

I’ve been off the river for too long. It’s great to be back fishing it. Them pokes sting for sure. I’m going to get boat out and hoping things pick up more. Thanks for watching my friend.

Great job catching a few. Those bugs can drive you crazy, especially when it's hot out. Those sturgeon are crazy looking fish. Never caught one.

Actually that’s the rivers normal levels. It’s great to be back there, but I’m not giving up on the kayak and will be out in the boat. Yea it sucks getting poked by the catfish. Thanks for watching and commenting. I always appreciate your support my friend. Take care.

@@fishlessfisherman1539 gotcha - I guess I am used to seeing you on the high bank part of the river. Looking forward to seeing you in the kayak!

@andrewdixon8612 we went through a drought last 3 years. It’s dropping fast again. But that’s the only time I’ll take kayak out. This river is fastest interior river in Iowa. That’s why I want to get the boat out before it drops anymore. Weather here can change every 1/2 hr 😂😂

The rods are all from Whisker Seeker but I run all different reels. My favorite is Abu Garcia. Thanks for commenting and watching. Just glad to be back at the river.

Ho Lee Chit, haha, you catch more tagged fish than anyone on KZitem that I've seen! Bugs have been bad recently for sure. I love drum, they can hammer the bait and fight with the best of them

When the winter is 3 weeks the bugs all survived. Drum are great to catch. They are delicious too. I was surprised on the info on the sturgeon. It was an immature fish so they didn’t know the sex. But it was tagged 4 years ago and it grew over 3 inches and gained 1/2 lbs. They said if caught again the growth rate will be very minimal. The guy told me it’s a somewhat of a rare catch because it was tagged immature. Thanks for watching 👍🏻
