Skynyrd has always amazed me in how all 3 guitarists blended together so well. They always found their place in each song, made really smart decisions on how to accompany each other, and never stepped on each other’s toes. We had a 1980 VW micro bus, and I helped my brother fir & arrange the instruments (mostly the drums) into the VW. My brother figured out that the band only wanted him for the "roadie" issues that he provided and he left the band. This was my great uncle’s favorite song. When i first started learning guitar, he asked me to learn this. I went over to his house and played it for him, and needless to say he was so pleased. Fast forward to last November, he is on his death bed and they ask me to play it for him one last time. The pure emotion was something that cannot be recreated. 24:57 - he didn't tumble over. That's string bending. Solo guitar technique where you bend the string to emphasize your emotions more. It literally cannot be pitch perfect if you're gradually bending the string & slowly going inbetween notes. It's basically a slow, often one-way vibrato. And I think it's beautiful. It hits me in the feels every time & feels so human and imperfect, yet so genuine. Basically, almost all guitarists use that technique during solos. Sometimes even during rhythm sections.

Lynyrd Skynyrd is my definitive go to when someone asks me what classic rock is like. Really sums up that era for me. My parents listened to it and I didn't appreciate it whatsoever back then, but I did later on. "I want my music to sound human". Totally agree. It's those imperfections that bring the music to life. A perfectly sung song can sound almost detached sometimes.

I just saw Lynyrd Skynyrd in concert with ZZ Top back in March in Knoxville TN and it was just so nostalgic. It's definitely not the same without the original band members and they're definitely getting up there in age these days, but people still showed up to support one of the best southern rock bands ever. When this song came on the whole arena was just singing along at the top of their lungs lol. Ronnie died when I was just a baby, but my mom was a huge classic rock fan and I heard this band almost everyday of my childhood. It was such a treat to get to take my 67 year old mom to see them in concert one more time. You could just see the pure joy on her face while she had her eyes closed singing every word to every song. Great deep dive reaction Liz. I've always thought Ronnie had an ''earthy' and honest sounding voice, maybe knowing he's from the south and the slight twang in his delivery. Buty also knowing Ronnie was a tough guy and a 'brawler', his style to me was one of "this is how I feel and that's how I'm going to sing it", pitchiness and imperfections be damned. It's that 'humanness' that you don't hear very often in today's music.

Thank you. I grew up listening to older music first even though I grew up in the late 80’s early 90’s. Pitch correction absolutely drives me insane. It’s why I can’t listen to a lot of new music. When it sounds like it’s gone through a computer and all the emotions have been steamrolled out of someone’s voice I can tell. One band I wish you would do more reviews of is Fleetwood Mac. Not just the Stevie Nicks songs. Although she is a perfect example of a complete individual sound that is hers and hers alone. Every member of that band has their own voice. None of them are perfect. Somehow the Music stays with me after all this time. I can picture it in my mind and hear it without even listening to the song because it’s so unique. Same with Skynyrd. Is he absolutely perfect with pitch like some machine? No… Do I remember every song I hear them play? Yes. 100%. All the old music with no processing sticks in your mind because of how unique it is. It’s a fact. This song is a part of the reason why I love music so much. So amazing. Great video and review btw 😊👍 Oh and please do Fleetwood Mac “Family Man”. It’s such a wonderful, beautiful song. However it’s so odd in the way it’s delivered that I feel like it will make you laugh. 😂

I get emotional when I see other people realizing the same things I did in these rock songs. The guitar seems alone at first, and then other instruments start to embrace it, each finding their place. This shows that we are not alone in our purpose. There is nothing more important to a person than their parents' advice. It’s the advice of the only ones, for those who had the luck, the only ones who truly care about you. The music doesn’t mention the presence of the father, perhaps absent, maybe it was a single mother. Extrapolating psychoanalytically speaking 😅, the mother has a deep connection with her child. And it seems that this bond wasn’t shaken during the character's life. The advice is simple but contains everything a simple man needs to be happy. Nothing will be easy, but have patience. One day at a time… I don't know if it’s autobiographical at some point, but we can consider it might be, as rock songs often express the deepest feelings of their composer. I was moved by how you reacted and thought so deeply. Congratulations on the channel.

It really doesn't matter which Skynyrd songs she reacts to. My Skynyrd Playlist on Spotify is 30 great songs in a row. But my lesser known favorites: On The Hunt, Comin' Home, One More Time, Am I Losin', Was I Right or Wrong.

Not sure if anyone else has commented this yet (I scrolled a little but didn't see it) but I'd love to see you react to Shinedown's version of this and maybe compare and contrast the two. I love both of them.

Yes, short, sweet, to the point lyrics for any simple man to grove on! To me, short sentences are real speaking from the heart. Much like varying pitches. Pitch perfect does sound so fake to me. Yup, like a robot or AI singing. The inflections are what make music real & humans can connect through it. Generally, all Country Rock brings forward the realness that Country music also has. Country Western music is like the Country Blues to me. OK, pure singing in opera is also so great, really! I love ALL kinds of music. I feel very fortunate to have been exposed to many different generas, however it's spelled, as I grew up many years ago. Not that I've actually ever really grown up completely, mind you. All that you need is in your soul. Be a simple kind of man. OH, YES! I get you with that, Elizabeth. I always thought as the original saying expressed; to paraphrase, It's the Greed for money that is evil, generally. Money is not inherently evil. Money is a necessary tool for sure, but how much is 'enough for you?' Don't you lust for the rich many gold. All that you need is in your soul. Many people throughout history have sold their soul for money. And possibly more importantly, what is the end goal, what will you do with it? Do good things for others if you have an abundance of it, correct? Share it or do good things for those less fortunate, right? Wil sound quite simple minded (Simple Man, after all), but, like, you may have many hammers although you need only one at a time. Maybe neighbors near you need a hammer to improve their situation? Give them one of your extras, don't be selfish, right? In my experiences in life, the country people tend to help neighbors more willingly than city people, IMHO. These days, how much money is enough? After a while it just becomes a status symbol, kind of a waste. Too often to look down at others like one is better because they have more money? The exact opposite may be closer to the real truth. Some people can't accept or handle that thought. Money by Pink Floyd or Big Money by Rush immediately come to my mind. Yup, I'm that 'old man Rush fan' that's been hitting you and many other channels on ytube about the Rush song first reactions. I love all the feelings and emotions that are displayed here on ytube by the real people's reactions to most any song I enjoy, not only Rush. Not by a long shot! So, I saw you 'getting weepy' during this analysis, Elizabeth. Too cool AND real! It's OK girl. I wept a bit in 2018 when my wife & I were so fortunate to see Skynyrd do this live! My Mom, bless her soul, taught me everything this song says. Only not as eloquently & all at once as this song does so well. She gave me life lessons to teach me all the things mentioned in this song. Are you happy, Elizabeth? You made a 'grown man cry' with this installment of your great exploration into music that's new to you. Way to go, Girlie! I have another classic Skynyrd tune for you. Curtis Lowe kzitem.info/news/bejne/1oajqn95ZpdqfnY Curtis, another simple man, the similar theme of simple man and both were usually played at every concert. Curtis and simple man both made a difference with no money. I always appreciatively enjoy your expertise & insights along with the honesty, openness and genuine feelings. I really enjoy and love exploring your channel, every time! Keep up the awesome work! BeGood, BeWell, BeReal

So talking about the "screaminess" puts me in mind of Eric Clapton: I get off on 57 Chevys I get off on screaming guitars Like the way it gets me Every time it hits me I got a rock n roll I got a rock n roll heart...
