I'm not sure which train they are running today if it's the Edison or Torch Lake..heeeerrrreeee cooooomes the traaaaaain...unmistakable whistle blasts. But between you & Justin posting train vlogs I have been having flashback memories of working at the Village on Firestone Farm dressed in my 1885 farm attire & having to chase the Merino sheep Bo Peep style off the train tracks when they got out of the paddock before the steam locomotive full of guests came barreling down the tracks! And then still have dinner on the table at noon for the guys in barn. Ugh living history site problems 😂

I didn’t expect ANY effects. I felt all boarding of trains were either: 1. Stuntmen and a stunt-double for “Clara” doing it. 2. Actors training well and actual train moving slower, but sped up for film. To me it all seemed too real to be special effects. That is how you know it was great.

Thank you for the flashback. I grew up in Jamestown , and I was there when the movie was filmed. It was fun to see it recreated like this. I remember seeing the Delorean sitting on the tracks ready for filming, and seeing colored smoke coming up off in the distance. Since then I have moved and learned some time ago of the loss of the buildings of Hill Valley to a fire. I grew up around these trains, they were the reason I became obsessed with trains, especially #3 (Sorry #131). I always knew where the train was, and who the engineer was, just by the sound of the whistle. Thanks for the memories.

They also built that because it was too dangerous to actually film them on a moving train so they built that fake caboose and filmed it in front of a blue screen. They were never going to let the actors shoot that on the actual train even if they platform was big enough to hold both of them. Also it's weird that they were able to do the hold up thing. Railtown actually doesn't do that anymore because it's a historical state park and historically speaking the train was never actually robbed so someone from the state department that funds these parks told them they couldn't stage these highjackings anymore. Maybe they made an exception for this since the filming for Back to the Future 3 is something that actually happened here.

One of the things you notice in the cab of a live steam locomotive is the heat. It's hot in there! But the engineer and fireman wear heavy clothes and gloves, even in summer -- how can they stand it? Protection. The fire heats the water and makes steam under pressure. Every metal surface is hot. Hot and dirty and greasy. Steam locomotives are not for sissies.

Nice a Steam Engine that uses wood for power.
@rotunda57
4 жыл бұрын
Actually it's an oil burner. The firewood stacked on the tender is for show. It's burning waste crankcase oil which is stored in a cistern in the tender. That's why the smoke is black, not grey.
@renegadeoflife87
4 жыл бұрын
@@rotunda57 I can get black smoke on firewood if I want to, its all in how you handle your fire and being a steam fireman I know how to manipulate that. But the sheer amount of wood required to operate a boiler that size would require a lot of effort to obtain, handle, and finally throw into the boiler. Using oil fuel makes it much cheaper to operate as well as needing a lot less labor. Reading up on Sierra #3's history, it was originally built as a Coal burner but had been converted to oil around 1900, being oil-fired for most of its career.
