Bit of a contradiction from the first film though. "This is heavy duty Doc, this is great, does it run on regular unleaded gasoline?" @@SiVlog1989 that is a bit of a thing I've seen talked. I thought doc mainly meant plutonium for time travel. ALTHOUGH back to the future Orginal probably didn't expect to delve into details. @@SiVlog1989 It's not a contradiction. Marty was asking Doc if the time machine could really just time travel by filling it up with gasoline like a regular car. In BTTF Part 3 he says the same thing: the DeLorean runs on regular gasoline like any other car, but the extra parts that Doc added (i.e the time travelling stuff) are powered by Mr. Fusion. The distillation of crude oil into kerosene was invented in 1854. One of the by products of that process is gasoline. It was considered waste and was dumped onto the ground. Going back in time changes things since you alter the past simply by being in a time period in which your present self wasn't originally there. If I went back to 1963 and killed Lee Harvey Oswald an hour before he shot John F Kennedy then I would've not only created a timeline in which JFK survives but I'd also create a timeline where I existed in 1963. I originally didn't exist in 1963 because I was born in 1996. Let's also say I went back to 2000 to warn the FBI that terrorists would hijack multiple airliners on 9/11/2001 and fly them into the World Trade Center and the pentagon. I also would create a timeline where those attacks possibly never occur or some other type of terrorist attack would occur perhaps on a different date and I also would create a timeline where my adult self existed in 2001 even though I was actually barely in kindergarten at that point. Amazing how you can find so much effort in any single small part of these movies. Watch Doc as he realizes what Marty just said; he forgets to put his other arm through the sleeve of his duster. His lip quivers after he hears his own words. You'd swear Christopher Lloyd somehow managed to will the blood to drain from his face. Marty's response is spoken like the air being let out of a tire; his incorrect assumption about how Mr. Fusion works put the damaged gas line at the absolute bottom of his list of problems, he thought finding Doc (and then surviving Buford) would be the actual _problem,_ and now he's learning their situation is far worse than he's been thinking for the last day and a half.

@@pkmovies92 It was their only plan, and everything was set up and ready to go. They couldn't leave the Delorean out where anyone could find it, so they would have had to take it off again and hide it. Plus, Buford might have broken out of jail the next day and come after them. Or Doc could have been bitten by a snake. Anything could have happened, so they would have wanted to get out fast, while everything was set up. As for Clara, Doc got slapped the night before for "lying" to her about a time machine, so as far as he knows, Clara wants nothing to do with him, so she wouldn't figure into their plans at all.

Anyone else mildly curious as to why they didn't try to just siphon gas from the delorean that doc actually took to get to 1885 my reasoning for that is because by the time doc and Marty ReDiscover the delorean in 1955 the gasoline that would have been in the system would have already gone bad and as for the excuse somebody might say doc ran it out of gas driving it around in 1885 he likely would not have driven it around out of fear of corrupting the space-time continuum and as for the torn fuel line they could have just taken it off the delorean doc took to get there it more than likely would not hurt the timeline to do so because the fuel line would have rotted between 1885 and 1955

My only problem with this is that gasoline was around in the 1880s. To refine kerosene, what they used for lighting, you get the byproduct gasoline. Seems like such a huge oversight that could've been used. Especially since the gasoline of that Era was highly unstable, they could've used it as the way the fuel pump broke

I think in the end the filmmakers wanted to incorporate as many tropes of the cowboy movie as they could, and what western isn't complete without a train robbery? So yeah I'm sure if they looked hard enough they could have scrounged an alternative together. But like Doc says "if your gonna build a time machine into car why not go with some style." Hence the filmmakers thinking :Trains are cool, gotto get one in anyway we can, and make it a big part of the Finale!

It probably would not have worked well enough. Gasoline was a byproduct of kerosene refining, but the octane rating is too low for modern automobiles. Gotta love how Doc thought to get the Mr. Fusion so he wouldn't need the plutonium, yet didnt even consider installing any alternatives to gasoline just in case, hell you'd think that an alternative fuel source would be Mr. Fusion's main purpose device would be to fuel cars since most people in the 21st century probably arent needing 1.21 GHz of energy for their time machines, like what the hell is the purpose of Mr Fusion if it isnt to fuel their cars? Do people in the "future" have soo many power-sucking devices in their car that a normal battery won't do the job? Like idk that kinda confuses me, cuz if the Mr. Fusion isnt for a purpose you'd expect like powering the vehicles themselves then what are they made for? Just to power the "hover conversion" device?? I guess that has to be the case, unless the "Mr. Fusion" device isnt nearly as common as it seems to be and is only used by a sliver of the population that needs the excessive power it produces or for like military/industrial purposes then why does it exist? I always figured it was a commom item in the "future" just like the hoverboard yet apparently they dont use it to power their cars and still use gasoline in BTTF's 2015, unless Doc cheaped out and got the hover conversion and Mr. Fusion installed yet didn't convert the car to work with an alternative fuel source or hell to just be 100% electric and powered by the Mr. Fusion device, like idk man it just makes me wonder if people in the movies version of 2015 still use Gasoline for their cars, or if Doc was just lazy/too near-sighted to think that maybe he should have a backup for the car's fuel incase he ever got stuck in a time where Gas would be nearly impossible to come across. Like idk if it were me i probably wouldn't converted the dolorean into being solar powered or powered by a Mr. Fusion device or hell something that converts plastics into gasoline (which would be feasible since i believe theres been people that have beeb able to recover crude oil from common plastics, the only issue being it requires a lot more effort than just getting our gas the way we've been doing it throughout history, but you'd think in an "advanced future" they would've figured that out and made it so the energy input needed to refine the plastics into usable fuel was efficient enough to be worth it, or hell was just powered by the Mr. Fusion since it literally runs on trash and generates way more power than you can really imagine being necessary in a car even if you had a couple tvs and blender inside being powered too 😂9
