They have music that most times you have no idea what the lyrics are and when you do you wish you didn't. We had movies that could scare the willys out of you with practically no violence or blood. They got violence galore and filth and sex galore. Instead of getting better it got worse.

Many missed out on the start, but we can always catch up, like yourself i became a Teddyboy in the 70's, im still a Ted today, for us the 70's were magic down to the cafes and pubs we went to and not forgetting the gigs, and seeing our stars from the 50`s coming to England, some for the very first time, i put that down to the 70's revival that we were a part of. England of the 50`s was a drab and dreary place to be, many areas still had bombed out buildings from the war, there were no diners, no drive thru`s, we did have the greasy spoon cafes, and some very good Rock`n`Roll singers of our own, like Tommy Steele, Marty Wilde, Terry Dene, Dickie Pride..

Sometimes we parked along the drag and jumped into other cars cruisin as mixed couples/friends or with "strangers" we met at stop lights from other Hi Schools...radios were blaring r&r...we even had a KQEO radio "kissin' tone."

Hi B AM22, we did the same in the Northeast - I remember "Lover's Lane" in the sixties, cars all lined up, we would share food and "pops", and sometimes marvel at our respective car engines. We had real DJ's back then, live people you could call pretty much like in "American Graffiti", it was CFOX 1470 (pronounced C-Fox). I went to school in the big city (Montreal, QC, Canada), Friday and Saturday nights were fair game for us in the summer - and in the winter, we would "fog the windows"!. Remember the Sock Hops? Peace be with you, Ciao from Maine, L.

@@lancelot1953 All I responded back "lost in space" without redo or undo..sorry. But, same here to ur above and we also had foggy car windows. One nation of a specific generation of teens involved in like activies revolving around the sound of r n r....we were bilingual here too, but with another romance language. LOL I wore a particular line/label of shoes called "Ciao." You probably had NY after a certain hr...we got early Wofman Jack after midnight via AM and the $5 9V transistor radio. Let’s go through a thought experiment. You said that you want to go back to America, as it was 60 years ago. Very well, you can do so, but only on one condition. You have to flip a coin. Heads, you get to go back just as you are now. Tails, you go back as a black woman living in Alabama. Would you flip the coin?

Thats great, got to admit the music of the 50`s will never die, and the cars were fantastic, it would cost you a mortgage to buy one today, what cost you $2000 back in the 50`s can easily fetch upwards of $70,000 depending on the car..

I was a kid in those days, but I remember all the cool cars. How did we manage to live in a time when men were men and women were women ? Now we have 65 genders and almost everyone is pissed off about something. What a shame that we have evolved ( or devolved ) into what we are now.

Women barely survived it back then, as they were pretty much just property. Had to be subservient, couldn't have a credit card or bank account without a husband's approval, had to use "mother's little helper" to get through the day Alcoholism was rampant and wife beating was almost normal. And they had it good compared to black folks with the segregation and Jim Crow laws. They had to publish a travel guide listing places that wouldn’t refuse them service for food, lodging, or even to use the restroom as they drove about the country. They certainly didn’t think of it as a golden age. Thank God we've evolved from then.
