Regarding the corners of your "pillow case" binding--besides clipping the corners, Nancy Zieman would grade the seam, tapering the seams to the corners.

Thank you for this video! I appreciate the tip as I've often found that's the part that made my piece look not as good as it could be. In the past I did not sew to the edges as you showed but, before turning, press the flaps back. That works okay but still not perfect. I'll try your method and see if it's straighter. Thanks again.

Thank you for sharing your talent. I would have agreed with you about binding especially with large quilts. I made a frame that goes over my sewing cabinet. It is like an upside down U from PCP pipe with legs going out from the bottom to balance it. Think of a Christmas tree holder with two balancing legs for the trunk of your tree. I have weights on the legs to keep it really steady. I have a clamp on elastic hanging from it. I can clamp the center of the quilt and it takes the weight of the quilt as I put my binding on completely by machine. Now that I am not fighting the weight of the quilt, I don't mind binding. I do enjoy your posts. Thanks for taking the time to make them.

OMG! Sewing perpendicular at the opening for a "pillowcase" quilt is SUCH an easy/incredible idea. I make stuffed animals and I'm going to use that to help too! I am also not crazy about binding so I'll try the pillowcase type quilt with that trick on the baby quilt I just finished. Thank you Maureen.

I think your method of organizing your blocks is terrific. I'm a little different from you: I enjoy doing the binding. I have always liked doing hand work. My least favorite process of making a quilt is the actual quilting. I've finally succumbed to using a long armer. I am really enjoying your channel. I learn something new every time. Thanks!

If I didn't long arm myself I think I would agree with you that the actual quilting would be the hard part. You are lucky to like the hand work.

Thank you for your videos. I have a question about dog beds. Do you throw in your stray threads that you accumulate as well. Is that recommended? Just asking because I feel guilty about throwing anything into the landfill from my hobby. 😊

I always look forward to your new videos on Monday morning, and always with some good tips and advice. Your tips on scraps are great. I don't mind binding so much - because I absolutely hate hand sewing, I do mine on my machine, and I use the walking foot, and it works great for me. The thing I dread more than anything is wrestling with the backing and batting to prepare my quilt sandwich. I really hate that part. So for that reason, I have a lot of quilt tops waiting to be finished.

thanks so much for watching. Some of my customers have me baste their bigger quilts for them so they can finish the quilting themselves and avoid the wrestling you mentioned. Check with a local longarmer and see if they provide that service.

Hi Maureen, like you I hate putting on binding. Years ago a friend showed me her method, attach the binding to the back side just as you do to the front, then bring it to the front of the quilt and sew with a decorative stitch or a straight stitch if you prefer. I do as much by machine as possible. You might want to give it a try. Love your show, Viola

Slow is not a bad thing. Cutting does definitely take time. Just don't cut too too much at a time. It is important to take breaks and not do any damage to your hands, wrists, and arms.
