I’m the caretaker at colden for the winter but had hip surgery so I couldn’t be out there this winter. I was the parking lot person. Thanks for the cool coverage of Marcy and skiing it - I miss that ski !!!! Fun to pick out sections like romper room from that perspective. 🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️ I’m be back out there next winter. 👋

Great video - you are a beast hiking miles in ski boots. When skiing in late spring conditions, a great way to move fast and have happier feet is bring a pair of light sneakers you don’t mind getting muddy (and extra socks!). When the first few miles are dry, have your boots on skis on pack and when you hit snow line, leave the sneakers tucked behind a tree for your return!

Thanks for the positive constructive feedback Damis! I definitely learned my lesson on this one! The multiple pairs of dry socks is a good tip. Tried changing socks on a recent hike and it was a game changer. Cheers!

Sir, skiing the Daks is no easy feat especially on spring snow, and the summit of Marcy is a rad place to get some turns! Keep scouting those dream lines! ⛷

Thanks man! I know it dumped a week ahead of when I went and I saw photos form up there. Conditions looked great but I had a family emergency that require me to stay home. This year hopefully I’ll get up there with some good snow

Nick this is one of the best videos I've ever seen on skiing Mt. Marcy. Like you, I got Goodman's book and am now devouring content. Thank you for posting this, it is really helpful as I get started on my backwoods skiing journey!

Nick: Great video. I'm from Cleveland and, like you, dreamed a lot of about alpine touring, got the gear, and I'm going into my 3rd season. I've studied Goodman's book also and I've done a bunch of solo tours in Vermont. Haven't done Marcy yet, but it's on my list. Great accomplishment...I think you've inspired me to make it happen this coming season! Your downhill footage is some the highest quality and most comprehensive I've found so thank you for that! Those conditions looked pretty challenging...I'm impressed that you stuck with it.

Skinned up the backside of Whiteface, stairs to the summit where covered in ice and I didn't have my spikes or crampons.Wasn't gonna break my neck trying to get up and I was out of snacks. Was probably about 500 feet from the top and I turned back to ski down.

We had such a bad winter, normally in a good winter those are straight snowfields around the summit. Surprising to see how many trees were poking out.

Hiked Marcy two months ago. The boulder to boulder is killer on the knees. Most likely easier in the winter when everything is filled in. Have you ever done the Thunderbolt Trail on Greylock in MA?

Hi Nick, would you mind sharing what skis you went up on? width, length, etc.. they seem to be twintippy... and kinda short. I assume the short is a benefit here, when i am watching the descent. I would like to learn about your choice of the ski for this trip, or generally east coast BC. Thank you, - J

Hi, I skied this on Kastle Colby 186cm. I would not reccomend this setup. I used these skis because they were the skis I had a access to at the time. I would recommend checking out “ski essentials” here on KZitem for great gear reviews and advice on all mountain / bc skis

@@nickdambrosia2304 Thank you! Oh, so not so "short" after all. They seemed that way in one of the shots. I was planning to go up Marcy. Hopefully this winter. My current uphill ski is not very fitting the east coast conditions (at least descending on it was not what i expected). So, looking around... I actually watched the SkiEsssentials videos on touring skis, and there were a few around the middle that caught my eye - Ripstick, Enforcer, one of the armadas... anyway, just wanted to see what you thought. In the Goodman book they say you have to pay for parking at the trail head. Can you confirm that? I was wondering if i come at night, and sleep in my car/van ... if that could work. Or if there are any gates, or other problems. I am driving from 4+ hrs away. Not familiar with the area. Thank you!

@@jl4921 Hey, I just got blizzard Zero G's and love them I would consider what you would like to ski and get a ski that fits those needs. I got a 95 underfoot ski because I felt that this was wide enough to ski pow (much better than my 80mm Kastles) and also still narrow enough to carve. They carve great and float nicely. The Zero G is a uphill focused ski and trades stability but I haven't experienced any excess chattering. With regard to parking you do have to pay. There is some primative camping off adirondack loj road where you don't have to pay but its a further walk from the trailhead. You can find info on oarking at the Loj here (adk.org/hiker-parking-at-heart-lake/) Cheers!

@@nickdambrosia2304 Thanks for the information. I actually own also the Zero G in 95, and my experience was not as good as yours. The chatter was so hard that it all went into my shins. To carve them, I had to drive it really hard at the front of the ski. After that experience -- I have couple of other skis -- so I thought that for touring in the east maybe I should switch to something that is more of a normal ski, with more turning capability etc for the tight spaces. Hence my first question. Anyway, I will give it another chance. Do you happen to have the new model? I read they fixed some of it...
