What do you when you run into a warehouse with docks that have the lock arm?

Biggest headache. I’m about to invest in a dock plate, cuz lock arms are impossible sometimes with the rail gate. Last night I couldn’t get around it, luckily they cancelled cuz I wasn’t going to be able to load.

@@tvanart Then instead of docking, you have to use your liftgate as a bridge to the warehouse, which means you need to extend and fully raise your liftgate and have the dock door open before backing in, and hope to heck you have a trailer backup camera to make sure you don't wind up ramming your liftgate into something. You'll need to do a LOT of GOALs to ensure your liftgate won't hit anything and its at the proper height to bridge onto the dock.

Thinking of buying a freight liner with a rail lift gate. Was worried about being able to back into docks without damaging the rail gate.

Its important to have good "dock bumpers" that need to extend farther back than the liftgate, see 2:51 in the video the bumps at the very bottom of the liftgate rails, just below the tail lights, on the left and right sides. They make a spacer to whatever kind of dock you are backing into, so that you aren't backing the liftgate into contact with any part of the dock ... the bolts holding them on will rust over time. Its important that the dock ramp extend past the lowered liftgate, so it bridges to the back of the truck (not landing on the liftgate). Not doing so will pry and wrangle the liftgate away from the back of the truck, damaging the liftgate.

There's usually a combination of toggles on the side controls. There should be decal instructions, though unfortunately those can fade or come off over time. Its often horizontal toggle in, vertical toggle down but I've seen nearly identical liftgates have exactly opposite controls for folding and unfolding, some will only fold/unfold when the liftgate is between certain marks on the rails.

Have to load and unload with the liftgate extended. There's no other way.
