I have wanted one of these for a long time, even on my old tv, but I really hated the look of a big camera sticking out on top of it aiming at the screen. That is how some of these things get their signal. The HDMI and FireTV combo made it possible to achieve it without the tacky camera AND it works better too. HDMI has been an option for a while but we primarily use the built in apps on the tv which don't work because the box itself has to have some sort of input. I decided to try Firetv on it so I can get all the same apps we use daily but not have to use the built in ones. It is much faster than those onboard apps and has more features so this worked out great.
Lytmi Fantasy 3
Pros:
Works with HDMI (no bulky camera needed)
Easy to install
Looks great, especially with a white wall behind it
Doesn't lose ANY audio or video quality during the pass through (audio is not a factor in my install)
App has lots of other cool lighting/mood/ambience "scenes"
4 HDMI inputs (I only use 1 since my system takes care of the rest of my equipment)
On / off with the TV
Bright, fast and mostly correct
LED strip is super sticky and didn't need to use the support tabs (they were not very sticky anyway)
Cons:
Instructions are not awesome.
Cutting the LED length to size and where to make the actual cut was not clear. The strip in the instruction video
is not the same as the strip that comes with the newer model and can cause confusion.
The included corner supports have double sided tape that did not hold
The box itself needs included double sided tape or some zip-tie holes for easy discreet mounting
The app took about 5 tries to get it to sync up with the box.
No eARC (audio return channel) so you are forced to use an external device for apps
It can be a little distracting during really fast dynamic scenes.
all that being said, I give it about an 8.5 to 9 on a scale of 10. It really does enhance the experience and now I want to put them on more TV's in this house. Take my info for what it is, just my own personal experience and thanks for watching. I'm out.
