Thanks! It would have been right around 4th of July. I typically take my long trips to correspond to the days off I have for the holiday.

@@highcountrychronicles is that atypical for the mosquitoes to be that bad at that point in the summer?

Forgive me but it is so nice to see an African American out in the back country. There is a shocking lack of representation out there. These are great vids of areas I haven't checked out. Thanks for the info. Hope to see you out there in the future. For the record...ain't no fish worth those bugs...good lord.

Those are some incredible fish, thanks for sharing. Shame about the mosquitoes, were they just as bad at lower altitudes (7000-8500ft)? I'll be heading up in that area this weekend and I'm wondering what to expect

Jason, it depends on the water situation. Emigrant was bad, Horse was bad. Sheep camp and Lunch meadow not so much. In my experience, Emigrant Meadow will be bad, High Emigrant not so much. Camp Lake and similar not so much. I think at 7,000 feet you'd probably have burned through the higher population of bugs last week. Places like Deer Lake might still be bad. Woods in my experience isn't as bad as Deer. Buck is usually bad. All that said, you'll be going in a full two weeks after my trip so I've got imagine that the worst is over. Maybe bring a thermocell if you're concerned, though REI's jungle juice would have done the trick.

This is great I’ve been looking for quality info on fishing Emigrant Wilderness. Thanks for posting. What fishing gear are you using? I just started backpacking for fish.

Thanks! I'm fishing an 8ft 4wt fly rod. I have a short gear video that outlines what I had with me.
