How do you turn an FWD AE101 Corolla into an RWD 2JZ GT86 GT3 Porsche eating machine?
When competing against factory workshop teams as a privateer team & driver, it's hard to keep up with the new and improved cars a factory team puts out every year to race. Craig & Scott McDermid and The Enduro 86 have found themselves in this situation for years. So what’s their resolution to this? Having run the same AE101 chassis for the last 14yrs, consistent upgrades and fine tuning has seen the car converted to RWD with a 2JZ power supply and a GT86 skin ‘stitched’ onto the AE101 chassis.
The AE101 turned GT86 features an interesting setup with the engine being positioned as far back in the engine bay as possible to help with weight distribution. But what other issues crop up with having the engine so far back? During a South Island Endurance Racing event at Highlands Motorsport Park, Andre talks to Ryan Heagney about how they have dealt with heat management of the engine and Garrett GT2871R turbos and what sort of long term effect having the engine so far back causes.
Also covered is how the team converted the car from FWD to RWD, the Link ECU package, the Holinger RD6S drivetrain and setting up a 2JZ for endurance racing.
