Tech Tip: Take a rag or paper towel and stuff it under the oil filter and the engine block. It will keep the oil from running onto the framework and thru the frame driveshaft hole and getting on the drive belts & pulleys.

FRAM makes a filter for it for about 5 bucks. As much as many people argue, it is the correct size, has the notches for an oil filter wrench, and has a BETTER micron rating than the expensive kohler brand. I also change the filter and oil every season which is sooner than 100 hours after first oil change. It is an EXCELLENT mower. The mz magnum (48” or 54”) is awesome for residential. The 42” has a crappy seat.

Good video. I was just needing to do my annual oil change on my Magnum. I am very happy with mine. Purchased in May 2020 (delayed a few months due to lockdown) and I have enjoyed it. I have 2.3 acres of pasture (we like to call it grass here in the country haha). I am about to replace my blades on my 54” deck. I just heard they are reversed threaded from a mechanic at the dealer. Wow, their maintenance manual should have that fact in bold. I purchased mine when I compared to John Deere and Cub Cadet. Well built machine. Great video!

I’ve taken the blades off mine multiple times for sharpening and changing, the threads on mine are not reversed, not sure if they have changed it on recent models, mine is a 2017 model. I would definitely verify that through bad boy before allowing anyone to work on it, as I’m sure that would be an expensive repair if they stripped those threads. I am a little over 200 hours on mine and it runs as good as the first day I purchased it. I definitely would not hesitate to buy another Bad Boy in the future.

@@MrGunner945 I just picked up today a Magnum with a 48 deck/ Kohler KT470, and I just went through the manual quickly this evening. It does indeed say to remove the blades you loosen counterclockwise. I have less than a hr on mine, but loving it so far. Have had two JD lawn tractors, and this is my first zero turn mower. I spent a lot time watching reviews, etc, and was sold on the Bad boy.

If it’s under warranty take it to a bad boy dealer it should be covered. If it’s not under warranty you are at the mercy of the mechanic, hopefully they are honest. I’m not sure if you can add fluid, I’m thinking it is a sealed system but I could be wrong about that.

Thanks for the video. Do the pulley covers trap grass clippings or create other problems? I run my cub cadet with the metal pulley covers removed and use a leaf blower to remove clippings after each use. I'll be upgrading next sale (Fall?).

This is my 4th mowing season with the mower and I’ve kept the pulley covers on the mower and have not had any issues. I do however clean my mower after each use, and by clean I mean, I use the leaf blower to blow all the grass and dust off the mower. I also wipe the mower down after every other use. I guess what I’m saying is I don’t let grass collect on the mower lol.

I know this is an old video, but I already bought my 8 hour oil change maintenance kit from TSC before watching this. It's the Kohler 7000 series kit. The oil in it is synthetic blend 10w 30. That's not going to be an issue is it?
@MrGunner945
2 жыл бұрын
I went by the manual, which says to use conventional oil for the first 50 hours to allow the rings to set. However, it’s hard for me to imagine that the rings wouldn’t be set after 8 hours of use, therefore, the synthetic blend would probably be just fine. Bad Boy has a good customer service, you could reach out to them directly and get their opinion, that may be best.

Thanks for the question, I need to do a 4 year review video. Only issue I’ve had is with the turn dial that adjusts the deck. When new it would turn smooth as butter, no resistance at all. After the first year it became very difficult to turn. I had it repaired under warranty, that lasted about another year and became hard to turn again, not as bad as before but definitely not like when it was new. That is the only issue I’ve had. No mechanical issue at all. No troubles with the deck or belt or pulleys, nothing. I’d buy a bad boy again without hesitation!

52”, 54”, and 60” zero turns are not for small lots. These mowers are designed for acreage and commercial cutting. It kills me when homeowners buy zero turns for one acre and down properties. They should get out there with a 21” self-propelled and get some exercise. And people wonder why they are so fat and broke. Because they spend all their money on zero turns and never move.

I bought this same mower 2 years ago. I mow around 4-6 acres per week. Last summer the right transaxle went out. And this Spring the left one went out. There's 180 hours on the machine. The brake and the clutch also failed last summer. The distributor / certified Bad Boy repair shop told me that this mower "isn't meant to mow more than 2 acres per week". That's ignorant on levels. Regardless, I'll never purchase another Bad Boy mower. It's been nothing but problems.

@MrGunner945

cameron smith I bought mine from Tractor Supply because there is no dealer in my town. But if I ever need warranty work done I can take it to any bad boy dealer. I don't think it would matter if you buy from a dealer or tractor Supply because the prices are the same and the mowers are already assembled from the factory. Tractor Supply does put the seat and levers on due to Bad Boy not delivering directly to Tractor Supply and from what I've understood Bad Boy leaves the seat and levers off so that the mowers fit on the Tractor Supply trucks better. It's a great mower, you won't regret buying one. Thanks for watching!
