Same here. (but still Terk, thanks for the review of course... your channel would be one of the reasons I backed the device... and I am happy with it overall. Of course once the price is factored it.. Perhaps I could have just bought another gaming laptop for the same affect... or the Winmax... I would've backed the winmax if i'd thought about it more logically... i'd get more use out of winmax's form factor over the handheld one... this is just... showing off really lol) So yeah, I can take solace in the reality that the specs are good. I don't have a problem with the company thus far, and fingers crossed I wont... I figured out firmware updates and locking framerates and FSR and all that... I have had software issues, and I haven't had a response from AOKZOE when I asked them questions... but we're all grown ups. It IS a PC after all. And many of us have worked in customer service at one point or another... I don't consider my experience to be a negative against AOKZOE or what I expected to experience. I don't care at all about the shipping situation either, i've backed tech on kickstarter prior to this one... and i'm still bloody waiting for it... which is getting annoying because we're talking over a year, maybe 2 in some cases... and i dont have the patience of a saint.. But here.. I think 1st Nov I had the device... so... lets say a month late. Meh. That's acceptable. I'm not the king of siam. I pay 1200 for something... Its complicated new technology... I can accept that delays occur and 4wks, coming from china, hardly Earth shattering poor service, specifically on that point. (all the other companies I backed were American lol) Peace.

Two days later my cousin called me and said it's lagging and not responding, I tried to solve his issue in so many ways but I couldn't. Also mine , lagging not responding and the turbo button not not working < it's a common issue . Anyway I went to the same store and told them the issue . They said that all the people who bought the aokzoe had the same issue and your not the first one. And he guessed some of the issues without telling him. Luckily they allowed me to return them as long as it's didn't pass 14 days . So I did . Also he told me not to buy it instead buy stemdeck . Bottom line don't buy it in a failure product.

I disagree about the materials. It feels quite amazing in the hands, both the comfort and the finish. Plus, you can tell most of it is aluminum or something because it gets cold when left in a cold area. Always feels higher end than plastic, obviously. Sure, the competition is probably safer and better made. But I like the Gamerboy immature aesthetic, personally. Like if a less capable Asus made one. And the screen is great. Sure, not oled and definitely not as good as Ayaneo's in thier competitor but 8 inches is, well, the size speaks for itself. What's more, NO backlight bleed. The sticks are weirdly light and I cant tell if that's because they're hall effect or just a bad choice on AokZoe's part. I'd have to buy one of those hall effect Xbox lookin' controllers to see. Regardless, a better choice for longevity. I've got a $400 steamdeck for a few competitive shooters I can play (dual boot windows), and the Zoe for all AAA stuff. Amazing for games like Forza Horizon. Controls are perfectly suited for it with great triggers and the fact that you'll tend to naturally lean the unit back when relaxing because of the fit in the hands makes longer sessions a breeze. Overall, I'm happy with the less than $1k I paid for it

I appreciate your opinion, but I gotta say I mostly disagree with what you have said. I own both an AOKZoe and a Steam Deck, and I honestly think the AOKZoe is the far better device. Starting with the materials, I much prefer the AOKZoe feel tot he Steam Decks. I really dislike the rough texture of the Steam Deck, and it tends to creak flex. The AOKZoe is much more sturdy, no creaks, no flex and much nicer in the hand Ergonomics I also much prefer the AOKZoe tot he Steam Deck. The Steam Deck has very aggressively curved hand grips, especially from the front. This makes it feel far less secure in my hand, resulting in me having much more of a claw grip and gripping harder, resulting in hand fatigue very quickly. The more filled out front grips on the AOKZoe makes it much more secure in the hand, so I don't have a claw grip, I grip with less force and have far less hand fatigue. Controls for the device, for the most part are better onth e AOKZoe. Triggers are better with better feel and more trow/travel distance, than the Steam Deck (and my Steam Deck has a metalic 'ping' fromth e Right SHoulder button every time it is used). Shoulder Buttons feel far less flimsy on the AOKZoe, Steam Deck should buttons feel like you are breaking the contacts off the baord to use them. Face buttons are much better layed on the AOKZoe out than the Steam Deck, with standard XBox layout. With the Steam Deck I feel like I have to hyperextend my thumb to use the face buttons, further increasing my discomfort issue from above. The DPad FEELS better on the Steam Deck, but is in a dumb position and hard to use for longer periods. The AOKZoe is correctly position, and it works OK. The Back Buttons onth e Steam Deck are more of a hassel to me than a benefit, due to the grip. My hands are either not position to use them, or I continue to accidentally hit them. I have these deisabled by and large. As for the thumb sticks, give me the AOKZoe's Hall Sensor any day. Yes, there is less force needed to mvoe them compared to say the Steam Deck's thumb sticks, but that's on purpose. Due tot he 0 deadzone on the halls ensors, the sticks are much more capable of making minor movements and the stick tension is set to allow that. If it's too stiff, you lose the minor movements that Hall Sensors allow. I hate the touchpads on the Steam Deck with a passion. Their positoin is terrible. The left one is where the DPad should be, so in the middle of games when you go to hit the DPad, you actually hit the touchpad and fuck everything up. The Right one is right in the way of my thumb as well, so when I take my hand off the right tumbstick I brush it and fuck everything up. I'm sure they are great for using a mouse in a Desktop OS, but considering the Steam Deck uses SteamOS with it's controller focus, they are totally unneeded. Screen is a runaway win for the AOKZoe. No contest in any department. The screen on the Steam Deck is, simply put, terrible. Low color accuracy and replication, middling contrast, terrible light bleed, 7inch with massive bezels, only 800p, and the touch accuracy of a Stormtrooper from Star Wars...... Honestly, the screen on the Steam Deck is a terrible unit, and Valve really shoiuld have gone with a better unit for the Steam Decks. The AOKZoe screen is much better. Far betetr colors, better contrast, higher resolution, smaller bezels (so better use of space) and touch accuracy that is actually accurate. Rumble and sound on both are OK, but not the greatest. Both are pretty much tied here. Both are servicable but uninspired in this regard. Performance is a clear win for the AOKZoe. I run pretty much all my games at 18w and 1200p resolution on the AOKZoe and compared to the Steam Deck at 15w and 800p the FPS is either pretty much the same or higher for the AOKZoe. The Steam Deck is really let down by the lackluster and lack of Zen 2 CPU cores. Games which are reliant on CPU pretty quickly get bottlenecked by the CPU of the Steamn Deck. By contrast the newer and more numerous Zen3 CPU cores for the AOKZoe mean that the CPU is rarely causing a bottle neck and impacting performance. Battery life goes to the AOKZoe as well. Mine has the 65wh battery in it, and I get anywhere from 30-60minutes extra battery in more intensive games compared to the Steam Deck. The Steam Deck's batteryu is really impacted by the odd TPU setup that Valve and AMD used for their APU. Ther fact taht 15w it averages much higher than this means the battery hit is much more. Heat is an interesting thing to look at with these devices. My Steam Deck at 15w get's CONSIDERABLY hotter than my AOKZoe. Right next to my fingers on the back of the Steam Deck it get's REALLY uncomfortably hot. Playing games my Steam Deck is always in the 85-95 degree range. My AOKZoe stays pretty damn cool by comparisson. There is no hot spot at the back, no area that is uncomfortable to hold. Yes, the AOKZoe fans spin up sooner than the Steam Decks, but whenth e Steam Deck get's to full speed it makes the same amount of noise as the AOKZoe and is still much hotter. And then we have SteamOS vs Windows. WHile SteamOS looks nice and gives a convient layout (which is needed due toth e shitty touch screen they have used), the compromises are big. Mostly being limited to Steam games (sure you CAN use different methods to fudge around and get Epic and GOG games on it, but it is a bunch of stuffing around in Desktop mode, and compromises on features), the fact not all Steam Games work on it (or work one day and the next are totally borken by an update you can't stop), and the issues around being offline with Steam (when you are portable without Wifi) and games justn not launching makes using SteamOS a fairly frustrating and no where near seemless experience. Windows on AOKZoe is just Windows. It works as Windows does. While that can be seen as a negative, navigation is fine due toth e good touchs creen in use, and games just work, because it is Windows. Choose any game store you want (Steam, GOG, Epic, XBox etc.) install the game and you are away. As for your issues with the Kickstarter, as a backer at around the 500 mark all I can say is, it was actually pretty smooth everything considered. Most Kickstarters for tech products tend to get blown out by far mroe than a mere month. Yes, there was a motnh delay from when they ionitially said the devcies would be sent to when they were, but that's really not that big of a deal and issues where resolved in that time (much better the issues where fixed then reather than devcies shipping, people geting them, then havfing to ship back to be fixed....). Hell, I am still waiting for some products I backed on Kickstarter after over a year. Sure, it wasn't a flawless expereince, but as far as Kickstarter products goes it was fairly good. I get it, people where annoyed they didn't get it exactly when it was predicted to go out, but int he grand sceme of things it's a fairly minor annoyance. I think people just need to be adults about it. Honestly, I thinkth e AOKZoe is the better device, all up. Yes, it's more expensive, but there are significant upgrades that you get with that. I look at the Steam Deck as being like a budget gaming laptop. Compromises have been made to controlls, materials and the screen tog et to a cheaper rpice, and it has OK perofrmance. The AOKZoe is a more premium gaming laptop. It has better construction, better materials and betetr screen. Performance is a bit better, but it's all the toher improvements that really make it a more enjoyable device.

Lol I feel like most of this review is over exaggerated, I was a backer and ended up getting mine in the middle of October (I know I was one of the lucky few). But I've never had any major problems with my device (again may have just been lucky). The whole process wasn't the best, but at the same time you have to consider that this is a new company. Of course there are going to be bumps in the road. Judt about every one of these handheld companies had initial issues when they started out.. most recently Ayn with their shambled delay. 1st time for these companies always have to be live trial and error. I do agree it was wrong for them setting expectations of shipping date and then they are like psych, it's a holiday for us, and they do have pretty horrible support. But the device itself is amazing. I'd be willing to see how their second go around is before completely excuding them.

I mean.. to some it up, your video states (hardware is good, company is bad). I just think you're the one being bias. Minus Valve (because they are already a big company) every x86 windows handheld company, starting out, has had issues... whether it was delays, lack of communication, hardware limitations, customer service, etc. So you decide that this company is the bad one? With this information, then companies like Ayaneo, Ayn, GPD etc would all be just as bad because they've all went through similar issues. I'm not saying you weren't factual and I do agree that some things could have been handled differently, but its not as bad as you're making it out to be.

yes but OneNote has delivered OneXPayer models before and they other techtuvers havmt reported these delivery problems for OneNote, so I'm just wandering if this is an Aokazoe thing as it is a "new" company or spin off. I can only attest personally, but I received my OneXPlayer Mini Pro 6800U Last week (ordering/shipment schedules were a couple of days late from what was advertised, but they still managed to send my device relatively quickly. Guys, this is the click bait video that has almost nothing to do with reality; on top of that, the claims on the delay of a Kickstarter campaign are complete bollocks - EVERY Kickstarter campaign delivers with a delay, and given that they fulfilled the orders, and even sent some add-ons as an excuse means that they care and respect their backers. Launching a business off from kickstarter is extremely hard, requires a lot of bootstrap, and always goes hand in glove with the consumer extremist backers who demand a Valve quality from a product that didn’t exist a year ago and has been built from scratch.
@TheTerk

None of what AOKZOE delivered was "from scratch." They use the same software, manufacturing, parts, and billing backend as OneNetbook. @@TheTerk :-) the fact that they use the same parts as the other manufacturer users doesn’t mean literally anything: competing companies are not big fans of sharing information on how exactly they use, connect, write firmware, utilise software, etc. It is good to have a non-zero competition market of course, so that you can explore how other players approach their hardware/software/UX. But all in all launching a successful Kickstarter campaign and appearing on the shelves and having fairly good sales while competing with a huge corp player is huge. Large companies deliver products, on which they spend tens of millions towards UX, testing, compatibility, etc., because they can afford that. Well, that’s not a large company, it’s basically a startup that delivered few first major batches. I’m sure they’re working on fixing the issues both on hardware and software ends now that they got some liquidity from sales. Claiming it’s poor workmanship on the business side because of the delay in delivery - well, that’s how you get the under-tested kickstarter product in the first place, by rushing the creators and being a pain in the a** along the way instead of supporting their journey

I think that every reviewer of these products should first watch ThePhawx's video "The Steam Deck TDP is Wrong." It shows that the Steam Deck's total power output when the TDP at 11-12 watts is actually equal to 6800u devices that are at 15-16 watts. So you have to balance out the comparisons, you can't directly compare the Deck and 6800u devices because of how AMD has different TDP measurement techniques depending on the APU.
@TheTerk
Жыл бұрын
From a low level perspective, sure, it helps to know the effective wattage of the devices. From a comparison perspective, it is still completely valid to compare the Steam Deck in 15w mode vs. a device set in 15w mode. If you want to power-normalize results, go for it.
@bnr32jason
Жыл бұрын
@@TheTerk but if TDP isn't being measured equally on the Steam Deck, how is it a fair comparison?
@TheTerk
Жыл бұрын
@bnr32jason In my performance comparisons, the actual power draw is not being compared, but the settings. Which is why, just as Phawx mentions in his video, when I talk about power consumption I mention the setting, the effective power draw, and associated battery life. It's good to understand that Valve bins their TDP spec more aggressively than other devices, but it doesn't change the fact that at its default setting, it surpasses devices at a similar setting. The A1 ships with the 15W mode and can be adjusted accordingly
@bnr32jason
Жыл бұрын
@@TheTerk we should still try to compare apples to apples. If a car manufacturer says their car gets 40mpg but they measure on a completely different driving cycle than everyone else, that info should be made clear when comparing it against other vehicles. With their aggressive measurements, it makes the Deck look more efficient than it actually is.
@TheTerk
Жыл бұрын
@bnr32jason and when we talk about battery consumption (fuel economy) we talk about those metrics. When talking performance (mph, track times, etc) it's good to know the settings impact, but you still can compare the spec and actualized performance. For example, on a curvy course, a highly tuned 400HP V6 might be able to get better times staying in lower gear ranges/high rpm, while a standard 400HP V6 can run higher gear ranges/lower rpm and get slightly lower times. But on a straight away, the tuned car might top out while the standard car has some rpm to spare. At that point, understanding the tuning answers why a device performs better, but that doesn't prevent us from comparing the two in real world scenarios.

In Borderlands 3 does the AOKZOE A1 not preform better then the steam Deck, because 1fps more or less means nothing. And that the Steam Deck uses Linux, is also a plus point over Windows 11 on a handheld computer, and that the Steam Deck cost WAY less then the AOKZOE A1, and that the support is fantastic for the Steam Deck. But, 6800u has more power, better resolution and with the Deck only at 9-15w tdp you're not going to be able to play heavy ps3 games flawlessly, the 6800u can run skate 3 and GOW 3 at full speed, the Deck can't do that. Just because he has faced it does not mean others will face the same problems. Also, they have fixed all these issues whatever he has said in the videos. It seems like he has paid off to do marketing of ayaneo, other handhelds. Yes i am 100% disagree with him and his video.

I got the Aokzoe A1 and have almost no complaints. Yeah, they had a few missteps with KS but in the end they cMe through. I really enjoy playing with it. My only complaints would be the Dpad but it's not that bad and the Aokzoe App is sometimes a bit annoying to handle. Their website to download the updated version is horror but it still works.

This pretty much sounds like you are having a whinge, my unit arrived 6 weeks after the shipping date with no shipping or functional issues. It was a kickstarter project, when have they EVER run on time, generally speaking? Any message I sent to Aokzoe I got a response albeit somewhat delayed probably because they were dealing with individuals who felt a little hard done by because they had to wait. I highly recommend that people make up their own mind, I saw all the negative posts and comments when things got delayed but some polite communication with the company and I felt assured that my unit would arrive as expected. Yes, there are plenty of other units out there, and the steam deck does look great and it’s well priced, but I’m very happy with my decision to go with the Aokzoe A1, and it seems many others are too, good afternoon.

I'm glad you've had a good experience with your unit. I have not had the same experience as you, and as a reviewer its important to note the issues people have with their devices, not only my own. I had 1 good communication with AOKZOE, and after I declined to send out propaganda for them, they no longer responded to my emails/requests for comment. You should check out the Discord, there are many people there that still have issues with their device, shipping, as well as open issues and warnings about flashing undocumented BIOS files that AOKZOE themselves are publishing (v1.26). You should also check out the community tab. Not only did AOKZOE fail to give me correct shipping information, but they're actively seeking to cancel international orders yet still advertise that they ship internationally. These are verifiable facts, not just me complaining.

@@TheTerk You “declined to send out propaganda for them”, just out of curiosity, was that how you worded it to them, this may have been misconstrued as hostile, in which case I could understand that they may not want to engage further. As it happens, I have been on the discord, and the comments section of the kickstarter, and yes people are having problems and this is always frustrating, this is a new company that have encountered issues, how would you respond if you saw the review you just posted, if it was your company? As a reviewer I’m sure you are no doubt aware that there have been many instances with hardware where incorrect bios revisions or firmware having been released, and have had detrimental effects on the product. I imagine there is no correlation between the orders being cancelled and the recipients being difficult customers? Been given incorrect shipping information does happen, it has happened me in the past with a number of items, and yes, it is an annoyance, but the item has either been located or refunded, have you seen the relic of a system that most of the shipping companies use? Only a mere fraction of it is automated with the majority of packages being hand sorted, so unfortunately it does still sound like you are complaining, but seeing as neither of us have all the facts we can at best only surmise what is happening, so I’m sure you’d agree it’s probably best to avoid slandering anyone.

From AOKZOE: "I wonder if you would be willing to help us promote it at the moment in the form of forwarding or pictures and videos provided by us?" My Response: "As for promoting the device, without testing the unit I can't do that. If publicly available information comes out, I'll share that." - forwarding material created by a business without vetting material is spreading propaganda. See FTX news stories. If I produced a product, fumbled the release, and saw a review that was critical of how I delivered the product, I would publicly address it, not sweep it under the rug. I wouldn't offer international sales if I wasn't able to fulfill the sale and shipment. Transparency is the best case for PR, as we see with AMD overstating their 7900XTX performance. Newegg was shipping unrepaired RMA units to customers and Gamers Nexus found out. They called out the company, and Newegg is improving their processes. If GN didn't they'd still be selling unrepaired RMA'd components. If a company can fix an issue, bad BIOS / faulty screens / sticky dpads, then that's a good thing. When a company continues to release undocumented software, backdoor cancellations due to "hassle", and telling customers to not share their experience because it'll make others unhappy, that deserves to be called out. Otherwise, you're complicit with how they behave.

@@TheTerk your response is certainly to the point, almost abrupt you might say, who knows if you had said you would be happy to post the information if they are willing to send you a demo/preproduction unit to validate the material they may have been willing to do so, they certainty did that for other well known reviewers. I do agree that communication is certainly important in terms of transparency and for multinational companies such as Newegg who have massive well paid PR departments to specifically deal with such things it is a different story. Aokzoe started a kickstarter project, how many of those completely fail? They are not a large multinational company and you are not GN, yes they made mistakes, if they can learn from them at this early stage and improve then that is a positive, but you would rather go on a crusade and purge them from the internet. What ratio of comments on your video are positive vs negative? How many of those people received their products that have been shipped internationally? Perhaps they have stopped shipping internationally because that is now being done through Amazon? As I said previously, we don’t have all the answers, so, maybe do call them out, but do so in a polite and respectful manner, you are only hurting your own brand by going after a first time kickstarter project in an offensive manner.

thank you for the link - Good ol ETAPrime. He is running the Steam Deck preset at 800p, which puts FSR to AUTO mode, so no idea what resolution the game is really running. he's also running a non-standard benchmark pass, which isn't reproducible. My test was at LOW settings with no FSR enabled. My benchmark is the same streaming test Digital Foundry uses, which is 100% reproducible and indicative of worst-case streaming directly from CDPR.
