I wonder if in the Bahamas they have a similar law related to your wake and liability. Nevertheless, I watched your videos when you had to pull your boat out of the water along the Hudson. I saw the pains and perils you went through then and I found myself actually worrying about you two as to whether you would press onwards. I know that feeling. I was there in 2015 and called it quits. Well I am back and bought a boat in November and have a new attitude. The same exact one you described at the end of this video, regardless of the obstacles in front of us, the rewards are always right around the corner. Thanks for reinforcing that for me Sheldon.

And, the following day as I was side tie, got t bone at the stern by some moron (charter sport fisher) gunning boat in reverse trying to dock. It was only the last half that was a little bad, if we had stabilizers we probably wouldn't have noticed. The main problem with the wake was they were completely unconcerned and ignorant of anything we may have been dealing with, and could have injured someone or worse.

The entrance into Bimini was there, we pulled into the beach area well out of the channel. They did not take the channel out, they blew by us without a care in the world. Real boaters mind their wake. In my 25 years of boating I have not been waked like this ever. I hope you are mindful of your wake when you are boating.
@flnative7553

@@SearchingforCShels was there a no wake zone? the only thing that the captain should have done is give more clearance.. born and raised in florida 50 years. been boating all my life. IF you are at anchor and thee is not a no wake zone he doesnt have to slow down. should he have given more space ? sure but that is hard to tell on the video what the distance was. The only reason for him to slow down if there is a no wake sign or traffic. From the looks of the video he was in a larger trawler so larger wake is expected since the boat was very stern heavy.
@SearchingforCShels
Жыл бұрын
There are no no wake zones in the Bahamas or very little. He should have given more space and slowed down. Rules aside, common courtesy should rule here. If you see someone anchored in a weird spot or even in a channel chances are they are having troubles or are in distress. It is ignorance and selfishness not to consider others when you are on the water even in channels or even open water. If I come by an anchored boat I slow down, I don't know what their situation is. And if I'm in a channel and putting off a big wake and I have to come close to someone even if they are underway, I'll drop my wake. I hope you do the same.
@flnative7553
Жыл бұрын
@@SearchingforCShels that comes back to my original point he should have given more space. As far as slowing down unless the boat is in a grounded situation or distress. Im not going to slow down and seeing as you are in open water (off the coast) the area you are in doesn't present any rock hazards or shoal with one engine you could have put yourself in a better situation where you were not on the edge of the channel. That still doesn't excuse the captain coming to close unless you were on the edge of the channel. My 32 contender doesnt put off a wake like a trawler does even at full speeds so that is a mood point.
@SearchingforCShels

These people need to stay docked. They only want calm seas like it’s a lake to sail. They are too nervous. Three foot swells are not bad. It’s the ocean.
