so strange how two years ago and beyond, turbulence would frighten me to the point of crippling anxiety and my heart rushing... and then last year on my flight to Dubai, I embraced it, out of nowhere. I am so used to being alone all my life, that I found the strength not only to embrace turbulence and whatever distress is associated with it but also, to convert that concept into excitement. I was bouncing over the Turkish mountains with amusement, because my flight was dragging and it was entertaining. Strange I know,

My tafe teacher use to build aeroplane hulls before he became a teacher. He said you would never find a single weld on an aeroplane and that every part was riveted together for times like these. The rivets allowed the plane to flex and move unlike a weld that would crack under the pressures. Cool and scary at the same time
@beckyumphrey2626
2 жыл бұрын
Not exactly true. I am an Aerospace Engineer for Lockheed Martin in the US. There are welds on aircraft parts just not structurally loaded parts. Rivets do not allow the plane to flex. The structural material of the primary components flex. Rivets, bolts and pins transfer the load of the parts fastened together.

I experienced turbulence like this when flying into Reno Nevada during a major winter storm. The turbulence in Reno is especially bad because Reno is right next to the Sierra Nevada mountains and the wind accelerates as it descends the mountain. The wind was gusting to 40 mph in Sacramento 100 mph over the Sierra crest and 70mph in Reno. The turbulence was so bad things were rattling and it felt alittle like a rollercoaster and I thought if this continues very long I might get motion sick. The really bad turbulence only lasted a few minutes the air is much rougher near the ground. Interestingly the last few seconds before landing were suprisingly smooth, there was a lull in the wind 50 feet off the ground.

@RoadCone411
2 жыл бұрын
That’s really not true. It’s hard to tell from a video but I would probably consider this moderate turbulence at best…those galley carts rattle so much it makes it sound a lot worse than it is. Not ideal but not severe. Flying in severe turbulence is actually quite rare and stuff can start flying around the cabin. People can get hurt by projectiles or become projectiles themselves if not seated and belted. As for controlling the plane: the pilots have five point harnesses, they aren’t going anywhere. All aircraft are built to withstand A LOT of heavy turbulence, far more than they are ever going to encounter. With that, for the comfort of all on board, pilots tend to try and avoid the really heavy stuff.
