American Badger at the Point Reyes National Seashore
Location: Vicinity of Abbotts Lagoon Trailhead, Pierce Point Road
April 15, 2021, 10:15 am
Pierce Point Rd is fenced on both sides and signage is clear: "No Trespassing". We stood between the shoulder of the road and the fence. The badger is dealing with loss of habitat and constantly impacted by human activity. The dairy ranching within the park only serves to exacerbate the challenges facing the badger, tule elk, and indeed all wildlife at Point Reyes, including marine mammals.
It's important that the badger be given a wide berth. This can be especially difficult for photographers looking for the perfect shot. The photos and clips in this video are of lower quality, as I remained more than 30 meters away.
The presence of cattle/cows inside a national park/seashore is indeed shameful.
